"HumaNoise Tutti is an opportunity to hear Rodrigues in a large group that's not of his own devising-though there is often such complex and varied activity here, it would be misleading to evaluate it in the context of any one individual. The HumaNoise Congress is an annual gathering of international musicians in Wiesbaden, Germany, who over the course of several days play in every combination and as a group a la Derek Bailey's Company weeks. HumaNoise Tutti features three long performances of the full decet, which morph from clamorous counterpoint to restive drones to faint whispers and flits of sound. A rundown of the instrumentation gives an idea of the aural diversity: electronics, French horn, accordion, cello, extended saxophone, contrabass clarinet, double bass, viola, percussion, trumpet. There's a broad range of musical experience and temperament here, though as with much modern free improvisation, close listening and the suppression of individual virtuosity in the serviceof atmosphere is the rule (although Souchal opens "Sunday Evening" with a lyrical and rather direct turn on trumpet). In the 21st century, we're starting to see how lessons from the many "factions" of free improvisation that have arisen over the last 50 years might be pooled into a larger musical practice, one that transcends-or at the very least bridges-idiosyncratic philosophies, scenes, and techniques."-Dan Sorrells, The Free Jazz Collective

Artist Biographies:

"Korhan Erel is a computer musician, improviser, sound designer based in Berlin. He plays instruments he designs on a computer by employing various controllers. He also uses analog and digital electronics. He composes and designs sounds for dance, theater, installations and film. He collaborates with dancers, video artists and spoken word artists. Korhan's collaboration with Sydney-based video artist Fabian Astore "The Threshold" has won the Blake Prize in Australia in 2012. He is a founding member of Islak Köpek, Turkey's pioneer free improvisation group, which is regarded as the band that started the free improvisation scene in Turkey.

Korhan's computer performance system is called Omnibus. The instruments within Omnibus are a culmination of Korhan's musical past and aesthetic choices. Omnibus instruments use concrete sounds (samples, field recordings), morphed and processed in realtime. They can be as simple as one single sample being played using a Nintendo Wii controller to a complex system that employs granular synthesis and spectral processing. The instruments are played interactively using Nintendo Wii controllers (Korhan's choice of controller when he plays in ensembles with acoustic/electric instrument players), an iPad (used in solo/duo performances as well as ensemble concerts) and several midi controllers. No matter what technology he uses, Korhan always stays focused on the outcome and musicality rather than processes.

Korhan has had three residencies at STEIM (Center for research & development of instruments & tools for performers) in Amsterdam, where he studied use of sensors in music performance and instrument design. He was a guest composer at the Electronic Music Studios in Stockholm in January 2011.

Korhan has seven CD releases on Gruenrekorder (Germany), Creative Sources Records (Portugal), Evil Rabbit Records (Netherlands/Germany), A.K. Müzik (Turkey) and Kukuruku Recordings (Greece) as well as several netlabel releases.

He performs regularly in Europe and in the Middle East as a solo artist as well as with his projects in Germany, Turkey and Switzerland. He has performed in Soundtrips NRW, Moers Festival, Labor Sonor, Klangzeit Festival, Borusan Music House Istanbul and many more fantastic venues and festivals."

"Jonas Kocher is a sound artist and accordionist born in 1977. He is collaborating with personalities from various backgrounds and in numerous artistic and social contexts. His specific approach to his instrument involves at the same time physicality and reduction, uncontrolled playing and high precision.

Jonas Kocher has a strong interest in process oriented works and unstable situations. As a sound artist he has realised works that are situated between composed theatre, installation and concert pieces. He got commissions from Ensemble Paul Klee, Biennale Bern 2010 & 2017, Ensemble Phoenix Basel, etc. and regularly collaborates with musicians such Michel Doneda, Joke Lanz, Axel Dörner, Hans Koch, Jacques Demierre and many more. "Dirk Marwedel Born 1959. Since 1985 Dirk Marwedel has been working in the area of improvised music and related musical concepts as well as in interdisciplinary projects with performance, sound installation, film, dance, theater, sculpture and painting. In continuous interplay with different groups as well as soloist he has developed sounding techniques and preparations with which he easily exceeds the limits of familiar concepts of the sound spectrum of the saxophone and irritates listening habits. The permanent process of material and sound enhancement can also lead to play on hoses, balloons, with water or other sound bodies, even beyond the original instrument. With his work on slate slabs ("TonSchiefer") and the sculptures by the sculptor couple Livia Kubach and Michael Kropp, Dirk Marwedel, who also trained as a sculptor, explores and develops the sound qualities of stone.

Solistically, Dirk Marwedel draws particular attention to dynamic and structural movement. Dense monolithic sound currents can contrast with fine tissues, which are reduced to only a few senses, sequences of classical toning complement each other with grotesque or fragile, silent, brittle or bursting overflowing forms beyond the chromatically tempered tonal space. The limits and meanings of sound, sound and sound are moving, touching, mixing and differentiating. Silence is perceived as a fundamental element of musical experience.

Central themes in the area of performance (for example in the case of sound video performance> no change changing <) are the inevitability and irreversibility of movement and development. With concentrated acoustic and visual material, processes that are fragmented in the phenomena of repetition and change, memory and present are perceived in the light of their incessant passing over one another. Even more direct than in purely concertante performances is the irritation and questioning of fixed, automated boundaries and interpretations and the opening of unexpected perceptions. Recent works such as the "fields of intercourse", the "court paintings" and the project "Living Sculpture" also deal with the center of perception, the perceiving and perceptive human beings themselves, with their modes, the Familiar, the stranger, to meet oneself.

Dirk Marwedel has appeared in Europe and Canada. He lives in Wiesbaden and is co-founder and organizer of the HumaNoise congress - day improvised music."

"He has been playing the violin for 30 years and in that time has played all genres of music ranging from contemporary music to free jazz and improvised music, live and in the studio.

His main interest shifted towards contemporary improvised and composed music.

The relationship with his instruments is focused in sonic and textural elements.

Electronic music was an early influence on his approach to violin playing, which challenges traditional romantic concepts of the violin/viola through use of preparations and micro tuning.

Active in different settings on the Portuguese scene for free improvised music, both as a collaborator and in leading his own groups.

Music for Dance, Cinema, Video and Performance.

Has created the record label Creative Sources Recordings in 1999, which mainly concentrates on releasing experimental and electro-acoustic music."

"Nicolas Souchal: trumpet, bugle, composition. Born in 1979.

Nicolas Souchal is a French trumpet player, active in contemporary jazz and improvised music. He is recognized for his sense of construction in improvisation, his expressive sonority, and his playing including the extended techniques of the instrument. His approach is borrowed from musicians such as Don Cherry, Jean-Luc Cappozzo, Axel Dörner, and Daunik Lazro.

In 1997 in Clermont-Ferrand, he was a founding member of the Collectif Musique en Friche, a bubbling crucible of experiments, close to the ARFI (Association for the Research of an Imaginary Folklore). He developed two wind duets, one with Franck Pilandon, the other with Christiane Bopp, and more recently the quartet Les arbres moved during the night, improvised instrumental music and sound diffusion.

Since 2000, composer and arranger with the Balkan Brass Band, as well as the nebabylonian jazz quartet Humbaba, he appropriates and recomposes the traditional music of Eastern Europe.

Since 2010, he has been heard in various formations on the Parisian scene: Pavillon Rouge (Jean-Luc Cappozzo, Matthias Mahler, Jean-Marc Foussat), ARBF & Hmadcha in Essaouira (meeting between big band free jazz and Sufi musicians Yoram Rosilio), Quintet Cuir (improvised epidermic music, with Jean-Brice Godet, John Cuny, Yoram Rosilio, Jérôme Fouquet)"
