Descriptions, Reviews, &c.

"The songlike composition mode of these pieces stems from Petri's long time love of remarkable explorers in electronic music including but not limited to Severed Heads / Tom Ellard, Haruomi Hosono / YMO, and misc releases from Mille Plateaux and Raster. Apart from these and other "IDM" and / or "bedroom producer" type material influences, the sound is still overtly dreamy, psychedelic and flavored with dashes of industrial / cassette culture aesthetics, 80s/90s psych / "shoegaze" and noise, centered around manipulated guitar sounds.

As with Petri's prior recordings as Directives and with Dog Hallucination, the tone of these pieces is introspective and emotional. The many sounds, textures and tonalities invite the listener to look inward to seek inspiration, comfort and healing. Sounds and subtle themes circle back upon themselves in various places throughout the album, forming a Labyrinth of personal memory-meaning.

The long-gestated lovingly crafted complexity of the audio and the physical elements of this work warmly suggest that with sustained commitment one can persevere and heal through many obstacles, finding something more beautiful and satisfying -something akin to a true home- both outside and within oneself.

I've helped out a handful of times on a certain Earthship build where the person building the structure has invited visitors and those contributing to the labor to write notes, prayers, etc. on slips of paper and bury them inside the tire wall as the work proceeds. I suspect there are other types of personally significant items buried in the structure as well. Though invisible, these meaningful objects, thoughts, feelings and wishes are invested in the structure as it is slowly realized over several years, contributing to the depth of significance held in the building and property. This is the same way I think about building any creative project."-D.Petri

Healthy Alternative To Thinking [CASSETTE w/ DOWNLOAD]
(Eh?)
Two sound works from multimedia artist John Collins McCormick (Sky Thing) recorded using a multi-channel, portable sound system that employs up to 8 subwoofers in drum stands, amplifying low frequencies and rattling odds and ends he collected over the years, creating a rolling and controlled cacophony of quick rhythms and unusual asides from objects placed on the subwoofers.
Arcane Device
N28: Ohmniscient
(pulsewidth)
The second of NY electronic explorer David Lee Myers', aka Arcane Device, N28 series, an album of excited electronics, field recordings, inexplicable sound and rotating, splintering and otherwise lovingly mangled sound, not so much a noise collection as instead a controlled chaos with moments of cavernous beauty in a journey of mercurial rummaging.

Someone Has Always Come
(Sublime Retreat)
The third in Ilia Belorukov's series of electroacoustic compositions on Spina!Rec and Moving Furniture, here in a set of four compositions, each presenting detailed layers of acoustic and electronic instrumentation and field recordings captured throughout Europe and Russia, carefully placed over heavily laden synthetic drones that guide the motion of each piece.
Zenial
Lancelot's Delusions
(Sublime Retreat)
The music project of Polish sound explorer Lukasz Szaankiewicz is Zenial, merging minimal ambient and micro-sounds with field recordings and a sense of skewed motion, creating long-form virtual journeys through strange environments, or in rich textures of a dark night accompanied by slowly moving tones, his years of experience heard through exceptional sonic qualities.
Myers, David Lee
Partikelrauschen
(pulsewidth)
Referring to the music on this album from New York feedback and electronic pioneer David Lee Myers as "firmly rooted in the electronic music of the 1950s-1960s", over nine tracks we are taken on an otherworldly journey of detailed particulate electronic adventures, sometimes swooping, vertiginous, monstrous and unpredictable, each track captured live in Myer's Pulsewidth studio.
Directives
Protenomaly [CASSETTE w/ DOWNLOAD]
(Aubjects)
Aubjects label leader D. Petri (Amalgamated, Dog Hallucination) continues his work in unusual and sometimes aggressive exploration of the guitar as a sound source, looking for "novel anomalies" in amorphous compositions, seeking an extreme mixture of audio fidelities, peculiar equipment configurations, personally significant field recordings & various multi-level manipulations, in parts joined by Hillary Ulman on percussion.

(Not On Label (Machinefabriek Self-released) )
Music written to accompany a light & juggling performance by German contemporary circus artist Kolja Huneck, Rutger Zuydervelt developing the compositions of these works using only short looping structures that weave and develop into a tapestry of sound, inspired by the repetitive motions of Kolja's performance and the 30 centimeter round discs with which he performs.

Subjectivation [VINYL]
(Fragment Factory)
