descriptions, reviews, &c.

"Making music on the same instruments in a duo, could have turned out as boring. Usually in this setting, musicians will move in a fairly limited sonic space. Not so with ad hoc improvisation. As for the possibilities of sound generation, this field knows virtually no boundaries. Musicians can evolve their own playing techniques and choose their approach according to their preferences and strengths. And since improvising is largely about following your own unconsciousness, this is arguably the most individual of musical disciplines. Dues to this last quality, it is appreciated as a valid form of high art throughout the world, but less so in these parts. Even though Udo Schinderl succeeds in luminaries from all over German and Europe, his Salon für Klang+Kunst at Krailing remains a familiar affair for a small circle of experts and adepts..."-Reinhard Palmer (translated by A.F. Mader), from the liner notes

Artist Biographies:

"Udo Schindler is a German improvisation musicians (bass clarinet, contrabass clarinet, saxophone, flute, cornet, also accordion, guitar, percussion, analog synthesizer) and architect. Schindler was active in the 1970s in Franconia first as rock and rock jazz musician before he had flute lessons at the conservatory Nuremberg. Subsequently, he studied architecture at the Technical University of Munich and worked as an architect. In the 1990s he turned to contemporary music (Arch.Ensemble) and improvised music (Schindler.Interferenz.3). In addition to the single tube instruments (saxophones and clarinets), he studied the cornet. In addition to his sound research, he also worked as a director, performer, musician and composer for various theater productions. In the following years he performed with solo and duo projects at new music festivals (Musica Viva, Klangaktionen, etc ...), jazz, experimental music, among others. This led to collaborations with musicians like Hubert Bergmann, Gerry Hemingway, Eddie Prevost, Sebi Tramontana, Georg Wissel, John Russell, Blaise Siwula, Frank Gratkowski, Hans Koch, Urs Leimgruber, Elisabeth Harnik, Katharina Weber and Frank Paul Schubert. In addition to his activities in solid cast he initiated in Munich a series of concerts to free improvisation in ad hoc to test instrumentation."

"Ove Volquartz is a player, improviser and composer in the fields of jazz and improvised music since the 70's. He originates from the German free jazz scene but developed to the more open field of improvised music. The treatment of musical timbre and the advanced techniques on deep clarinets, have become the distinguishing features of his style.

He worked with many important musicians like Cecil Taylor, Roscoe Mitchell, Peter Kowald, Gunter Hampel, Barre Phillips, Sabu Toyozumi, Perry Robinson, Peeter Uuskyla, Gianni Mimmo, Gianni Lenoci, among others.

On the other hand he works with pipe organ player Peer Schlechta and contemporary composers like Daniel Ott. Furthermore he more and more works in interaction projects with dancers like Tadashi Endo, painters, poetry or films. Volquartz played at many festivals like Moers, Leipzig, Leverkusen etc.

He toured as far as to Africa where he worked with drummer Kojo Samuels in Liberia. He recorded with Annexus Quam, Gunter Hampel, TAG Trio, Second Exit, and Cecil Taylor among others.

As a musicologist he worked about flow experiences in improvisation."
