"Masayo Koketsu and Nava Dunkelman met for the first time in this studio session. Koketsu's inventive use of extended techniques and breath-infused wails filled the space with an experimental intensity. Dunkelman responded with a finely woven tapestry of percussive textures, her delicate rhythms binding their sounds together. Her sensitivity to nuance allowed Koketsu's raw cries to blend effortlessly, as if the two had long shared a musical language. "Masayo Koketsu was Born in Japan, Gifu Prefecture and began to play piano at the age of one. She started playing saxophone at the age of fifteen. Very early, she was influenced by Charlie Parker. September 2008 SONY MUSIC marks her debut collaboration with "Isao Suzuki SOLITUDE featuring Masayo Koketsu". She was rapidly considered for her unique tone and her original-rich playing among the jazz community. In August 2015, she released her 1st ALBUM "Band of Eden" collecting her own original songs. In December 2019, she published an autobiographical book "To the Depths of Sound" by Sairyusha, saxophone lecturer at Akihabara "HOT MUSIC SCHOOL".

In May 2015 she played at Italy Torino Festival with Shibusa Shirazu Orchestra. She also participated at Italy Prato in July 2016, at Slovakia POHODA Festival and in Lublin, Poland in October 2019 with Shibusa Shirazu Orchestra. In October 2019 she flew to Shenzhen China for a concert at OCT Jazz Festival with Isao Suzuki Omasound."

"Nava Dunkelman is a percussionist and improviser based in Brooklyn, NY. Born in Tokyo, Japan and raised in a multi-cultural environment by an American father and Indonesian mother. Her musical approach is innovative and dynamic, combining virtuosity and intuition. Meticulous in an intrinsic way, she uses her distinctive sound palette to explore and give life to a vast spectrum of musical possibilities.

Nava's current projects are electro-percussion experimental noise duo IMA with Amma Ateria, and percussion duo NOMON with her sister Shayna Dunkelman. She also has performed and collaborated with Fred Frith, John Zorn, William Winant, Ikue Mori, Brandon Seabrook, Angélica Negrón, Pauchi Sasaki, and gabby fluke-mogul and many others. She has performed classical and contemporary pieces with the William Winant Percussion Group, Joan Jeanrenaud, San Francisco Girls Chorus, San Francisco Contemporary Music Players and others. Nava studied percussion under Eugene Novotney at Humboldt State University before attending Mills College, where she studied with William Winant, Fred Frith, Maggi Payne, and Zeena Parkins."
