Descriptions, Reviews, &c.

"Once again at the Munich Center of Community Arts on 8 July 2023, the tireless Udo Schindler has a percussionist at his side this time, Erwin Rehling, in addition to the much-tried Eric Zwang Eriksson on drums. With his own alto saxophone, bass clarinet, euphonium and slide trumpet and the wall of books in the BASIS_Klangraum behind him, which is a reinforcing backdrop for a book drinker. Rehling, born in 1954, has been the quick-witted third of folk music anarchists Die Interpreten since the mid-1980s, has recorded "Hommage an die verlorenen Sprachen" with Die.Hammerling and "Neues von Früher" with trombonist Pit Holzapfel. With (extended) percussion, cowbells, stone playing, (bass) marimba & Schellenbaum he illustrates "Geschichten zur Winterzeit" read by Gerd Anthoff (the Dr Reiter in "Unter Verdacht") and with Schusser & Gesang his own "Ois ned glong. A country youth". And shows that Bavaria and its lowlands, which unfortunately also include Franconia, occasionally produces ricochets worth listening to. It can be connected to music that Schindler has illustrated in a supra-Bavarian way with quotes from Giuseppe Penone and a tree sculpture from his "Idee di pietra" series. The deep-rooted down-to-earthness of this profound nature art and that of the 'Ritual Sound' music is always diametrically opposed to the arse-facedness of the world. It is archaically related to the music of the rain and its desire to roar thunderously. And with clogged, sometimes polymorphously perverse trumpets or quaintly crowing, roaring bass clarinets to four-handed rumbling, rattling, rattling, jingling of neo-archaic, anarchic Art Brut and Arte Povera. Clapping and junky, chirping, grating and with foolish shamanic 'singing', the pig-shanked Mia San Mia is confronted with the out-of-Africa reality. Schindler plops and whoops with the euphonium and toots to the moon to the accompaniment of goblin-like strumming and marimba tinkling. And finally he croons and squeals crookedly with the alto, between two crashing avalanches of stone."-Bad Alchemy, Rigobert Dittmann

Artist Biographies

"Udo Schindler is a German improvisation musicians (bass clarinet, contrabass clarinet, saxophone, flute, cornet, also accordion, guitar, percussion, analog synthesizer) and architect. Schindler was active in the 1970s in Franconia first as rock and rock jazz musician before he had flute lessons at the conservatory Nuremberg. Subsequently, he studied architecture at the Technical University of Munich and worked as an architect. In the 1990s he turned to contemporary music (Arch.Ensemble) and improvised music (Schindler.Interferenz.3). In addition to the single tube instruments (saxophones and clarinets), he studied the cornet. In addition to his sound research, he also worked as a director, performer, musician and composer for various theater productions. In the following years he performed with solo and duo projects at new music festivals (Musica Viva, Klangaktionen, etc ...), jazz, experimental music, among others. This led to collaborations with musicians like Hubert Bergmann, Gerry Hemingway, Eddie Prevost, Sebi Tramontana, Georg Wissel, John Russell, Blaise Siwula, Frank Gratkowski, Hans Koch, Urs Leimgruber, Elisabeth Harnik, Katharina Weber and Frank Paul Schubert. In addition to his activities in solid cast he initiated in Munich a series of concerts to free improvisation in ad hoc to test instrumentation."

"Interweaving two distinct forms of creative expression, Eric Zwang-Eriksson aka EaZy aka Klangwahn fashions a variety of audio-visual installations. Likewise, he works with performers, authors and theaters as a musician and a composer. The artist's approach is shaped by his 30 years' experience in improvised music."
