New perspectives in Portuguese jazz, a remarkable balance between folk elements and a unique vision for modern jazz, in eight original songs and two covers including one from Marc Ribot.

A lyrical piano trio album from Swiss drummer Samuel Rohrer and two Portuguese musicians, pianist Joao Paulo Esteves da Silva and bassist Mario Franco, recording in France for 13 sophisticated pieces of melodic compositions used as a jumping off point for nuanced improvisation and exploration, all three revealing beauty in embraceable motifs and luminous song.

Primarily a bass and guitar duo between Portugese natives Joao Hasselberg, on double bass and electric, and electric guitarist Pedro Branco, here in their second album together of delicately sophisticated string improvisations, joined by a a great set of collaborators to expand the duo to trio and quartet.

2003 release of the Lisbon improvising trio of Bruno Pedroso on drums, Joao Paulo on piano and Paulo Curado on saxophone, merging jazz and world styles from Lisbon, America, Arabic and Jewish forms with lyrical strength, clear communication and an experimental attitude between the three players, a great example of the Portuguese free improvising scene.
