"Focused on the unexpected, L'Aile d'Icare intermingles electronic whooshes and oscillations with reed ands string extended techniques. On top of Foussat's wiggling wave forms and drones, Leimgruber and Zingaro do everything short of disassembling their instruments to produce original intonation. Moving among siren-like whines, staccato bites and minimalist sighs, Leimgruber faces Zingaro's arco swipes which include spiccato swipes, Jew's harp-like twangs and concentrated string buzzes. Each evolution can also be doubled by programmed electronics which also introduces field recorded footfalls and voices. By mid-point fiddle stops and squeaks coalesce into sweeping glissandi as reed peeps and tongue slaps settle into a sequence of circular breathing. Both structures evolve over a tapestry of staticky buzzing with this blunt deciphering further segmented with bell-like pealing. Despite Foussat's synthesized rumbles, the concluding sequence involves formalist reconstruction with violin expression as mellow as it is spiky and reed vibrations muted. Finally a near bugling nasal push from the saxophone and string trills are doubled by synthesizer expression until electronic squeaks signal the end.-Ken Waxman, JazzWord

• Show Bio for Jean-Marc Foussat "Jean-Marc Foussat (born March 19, 1955 in Oran ) is a French composer and improvisational musician ( guitar, piano, live electronics ). Since the mid-1970s, Foussat had belonged to groups such as Lézard Marçio, in which he contributed the sounds of concrete music with magnetic tapes. In 1981, he finished his first solo album, Abattage, which was released in 1983. In the ensemble Marteau Rouge (with the guitarist Jean-François Pauvros and the drummer Makoto Sato), he also collaborated with Evan Parker. Together with the saxophonist Sylvain Guérineau, he formed the duo Aliquid, which also appeared with Joe McPhee ( Quod, 2014). In addition to soloprograms, he also starred with Noël Akchoté / Roger Turner, Samuel Blaser, Émilie Lesbros, Jean-Luc Cappozzo, Sophie Agnel, Daunik Lazro and numerous other musicians, as well as the Fortuna 21 Octet of Raymond Boni and the department of education psychique on." ^ Hide Bio for Jean-Marc Foussat • Show Bio for Urs Leimgruber "Born Lucerne, 1952; saxophones, composer. Urs Leimgruber has been active for many years in the areas of contemporary improvisation, composition, jazz and new music. One of his earliest associations was as a member of the electric jazz/free music group 'Om' with Christy Doran, Fredy Studer and Bobby Burri, and he later formed the 'Reflexionen' quartet with Don Friedman and Bobby Burri in New York. He studied classical music in Lisbon and began working with a number of leading improvisers in the mid-1970s, becoming one of the European top improvisers presently. He has worked with such musicians as Richard Teitelbaum, Joëlle Léandre, Peter Kowald, Barre Phillips, Daunik Lazro, Derek Bailey, Jon Rose, Ken Vandermark, Ken Filiano, Rodrigo Amado, Ned Rothenberg, Rüdiger Carl, Dominique Regef, Evan Parker, Annick Nozati, Theo Jörgensmann and Paul Lovens.
