The Squidco Philosphy
Squidco
is an online mail-order shop located in Manhattan, New York City.
As we have no physical store-front we're able to run our store
with little overhead, giving us the opportunity to sell at
reasonable prices while still providing excellent service.
Our belief is that reasonable prices lead to experimentation,
and that's important with the extremely diverse musical landscape that we currently enjoy.
Ultimately we're in this for the music, our real bottom line,
and we hope that the music we sell is as interesting and excellent to you as it is to us!
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What kind of music do you sell?
Squidco sells music from independent artists primarily in the fields of:
- Improvisation: Jazz, Downtown NY, Musique Actuelle, European Free Jazz, lowercase, Onkyo, &c
- Unusual Rock: Avant-Rock, Rock in Opposition, Chamber Rock, Progressive, Experimental, &c
- Electro-acoustic: Organized Sound, Musique Concréte, Industrial/Noise, Plunderphonics
- Avant-Garde: Compositional Musics, Minimalism, Historic Recordings
- Books, Magazines, DVDs, CD Storage, World Music, &c. &c.
Our catalog is based on items that we feel strongly about, that we would recommend to you, or that have
merit in some way that makes them of interest to collectors of unusual and experimental musics.
We follow artists who follow their own muse and use their incredible talents to express it. We are, above
all, collectors ourselves, and the music we list is the music that enlightens us.
Do you actually stock what you list?
Items listed at Squidco are not listed until we have physical stock to fulfill orders, with the exception of items
marked as pre-order items. For a more detailed explanation of stock levels at Squidco
please read our Stock Level
footnote. Because releases come in quickly, it's a good idea to look at our "Just In"
section to see the latest items that we have physically in stock, but haven't quite cataloged yet.
The latest items received will always be found in the "Just In" category.
What is your privacy policy?
Squidco respects your privacy.
Squidco does not share or sell your personal information with any other businesses or individuals. Squidco uses a 128-bit secured SSL shopping cart to protect your credit card and personal information. No personal information will ever be shared, sold or used except at your consent for transacting business with Squidco. We do not want to inundate our customers, or risk the loss of their
privacy or personal information. Squidco has an opt-in mailing list which we send out approximately every
2-3 weeks, and occassionally for special events, sales or for customers interested in specific labels or
artists. You may opt-out of our email list by writing to sales@squidco.com. In general Squidco
is disgusted with the amount of spam on the internet, and well remembers the heady non-commercial days of the
late 80's/early 90's internet.
Do you have a store I can visit?
Squidco is an online store only, we do not have a physical storefront for customers to visit. We
believe that there are many advantages to this: our costs are lower because we require less space and
less staff; we are able to cross-reference our titles so that you can browse by genre,
by artist, by label, or by all items to see different views of our collection.
Why Squidco?
"Because a squid eating dough in a polyethylene bag is fast and bulbous. Got me?"
Squidco is owned and operated by Phil Zampino, a long-time collector and
music enthusiast. Squidco is always open to suggestions on how we can serve you better. If you have
comments, ideas, or requests for artists or labels that we might carry
please don't hesitate to email us,
all comments go directly to Phil.
