Uniting veteran bassist Joe Fonda with German saxophonist Silke Eberhard and Austrian drummer Emil Gross, this collective trio balances lyrical structure, agile free improv, and Dolphy-informed melodic abstraction through elegant and highly responsive interplay, where tightly focused compositions unfold into fluid spontaneous exchanges driven by rhythmic precision, adventurous harmonies, and a vibrant live energy.

Recorded live at Limmitations, in Heiligenkreuz, Austria, on November 30th, 2024, by Emil Gross.
Bringing together bassist Joe Fonda, German saxophonist Silke Eberhard, and Austrian drummer Emil Gross, JOSILEMI captures a trio grounded equally in compositional clarity and spontaneous interaction. Formed after Fonda and Eberhard first connected in 2022, the ensemble quickly developed a collective language that balances strong melodic direction, rhythmic elasticity, and fluid free improv interplay.
On Hear This, the trio moves seamlessly between tightly focused structures and open improvisational passages, maintaining an immediacy that keeps the music constantly in motion. Eberhard's saxophone lines combine lyrical invention with incisive phrasing, while Fonda's bass work provides both propulsion and harmonic depth, supported by Gross' highly responsive drumming and dynamic textural sensitivity.
Rather than separating composition from improvisation, JOSILEMI treats both as interconnected aspects of collective expression, resulting in music that feels simultaneously grounded, exploratory, and alive to the moment. The trio's interplay reflects decades of experience within creative jazz traditions while remaining forward-looking in its energy and sense of discovery.
