Descriptions, Reviews, &c.

"The clarinetist Christer Bothén , born in Gothenburg in 1941 , presents five new pieces with his new album Ambrosia , which are spread over three CDs. For these recordings, the experimental musician concentrated on his two main instruments, the bass and double bass clarinet. In addition, he strengthened himself for the recordings of some of the pieces with well-known musical core of the scene around instruments such as double bass, bass and piano. The main focus is definitely on all kinds of sounds that can be achieved with the two wind instruments.

Naturally, nothing catchy or particularly melodious comes out of such a constellation. But that's not the point here. Christer Bothén produces atmospheres, lets notes reverberate for a long time and also produces one or the other abstract percussion with his instrument. The result is a highly unreal cosmos of sound that fluctuates between atmosphere and cacophony, nowadays they are called contemporary.

In this type of sound art, the space and the resulting sound is an important component, and this is really impressively implemented here. You can hear the musician's breath, the tones are given the space they need to develop and the game between sound and silence is well implemented.

The whole thing is heavy fare, for which you have to be in a balanced mood and have the courage to venture into new worlds of sound."-Wolfgang Kabsch, Musikansich (translated by Google)

"Contrabass clarinet solo with reverberation from a grand piano. The soloist opens and shuts his eyes in order to signal the assistant to, at a given moment, press down on the sustain pedal of the grand piano to create resonating string timbres resulting from what is played on the contrabass clarinet. "Per "Texas" Johansson

Bold as brass! How else can one describe Per 'Texas' Johansson's music? With a wide-open mind he mixes whatever, whenever. He lets styles and moods come and go, while his attack remains as bold as brass.

In "Farornas hav" he and his comrade-in-arms Fredrik Ljungkvist rush to the fore - of what could be pure blues-rock, if it weren't that the instruments and playing style don't really fit. In the title piece for his second CD, Alla mina kompisar (All my pals) he invokes the excursions on paper-brittle night ice characteristic of free, piano-less jazz. Then he turns to Jan Johansson's sleepily bluesy Blues i oktaver (Blues in octaves) and emphasizes the carefully considered, audacious intervals with an indolently growling energy.

Per 'Texas' Johansson switches from tenor sax to clarinet and on to bass clarinet as easily as he changes style and mood. He places himself centre stage with a natural authority which nevertheless lets his fellow musicians - saxophonist Fredrik Ljungkvist, bassist Dan Berglund and drummer Mikel Ulfberg - compete on the same terms.

This technique makes Per 'Texas' Johansson's music generous and outgoing. And bold as brass!"-Johan Scherwin, Translation: Sven H.E. Borei

"Vilhelm BroMander (1988) is a Swedish bass player, improviser and composer based in Stockholm. He embraces his bass from many different angles, with a great curiosity in sound, texture, intonation and timbre. Often he directs his focus to acoustic details such as beating, common partials and difference tones - to hear what happens with our perception when we allow ourselves to be immersed in sound for a longer stretch of time. He draws inspiration from a wide variety of genres such as improvised music, free jazz and electronic music as well as his studies of just intonation and dhrupad.

As an improviser he has played with musicians like Axel DöRner, Tisha Mukarji, Michael Thieke, Sten Sandell, Christer BothéN, Katt Hernandez, Lisa UlléN, Henrik Olsson to name a few.

Also being a popular session musician he has played with among others Daniel Johnston, Saigon, Musette, Joe Davolaz, Josefin öHrn + The Liberation, The Tiny & Music Is The Weapon."
