Primitive Structures : A Merchant's Nightmare (Krim Kram)

Berlin improvisational trio Primitive Structures - David Roeder, Kashual Plastik founder Frans Aembient and Timu - shape nine spontaneous pieces from degraded electronics, improvisatory guitar, fractured rhythms and blurred melodic fragments, moving through post-industrial ambience, deconstructed jazz, psychedelia and oblique soundtrack-like spaces with a distinctly woozy, half-dreaming logic.

Artist Biographies

Berlin-based musician and visual artist David Roeder works under the name Nein Rodere, combining improvisation, fragmented song forms, lo-fi recording, sampling and musique concrète into densely layered, often deliberately unstable music. Active in experimental bands and collaborative projects for more than two decades, he is a member of Primitive Structures and CD3, alongside a growing body of solo work released on labels including Horn of Plenty, Kashual Plastik and Altered States Tapes. His practice frequently moves between guitar, voice, found sound and collage-like studio construction, reflecting his parallel background in painting and visual art.

Berlin-based musician, DJ, producer and label curator Frans Aembient is the founder of Kashual Plastik, an experimental imprint devoted to underground music, sound art and multimedia editions. His work spans improvised music, electronics, collage and sound installation, frequently emphasizing degraded or repurposed media, repetition and unusual combinations of acoustic and electronic material. Alongside his solo and curatorial activity, Aembient is a member of the improvisational trio Primitive Structures.

Timu is a Berlin-based experimental musician and member of the improvisational trio Primitive Structures alongside David Roeder and Frans Aembient. Working within the group's open-ended approach to spontaneous composition, Timu contributes to music that moves between fractured jazz, electronics, psychedelic repetition, lo-fi texture and abstract sound construction. Outside Primitive Structures, documented activity includes collaborative live performance with Roeder, though little biographical information has been publicly published.

(Krim Kram)
Percussionists Ted Byrnes and Jeph Jerman follow their 2023 collaboration Passenger with ten entirely acoustic drum-set improvisations created through iterative file exchange, exploiting heads, rims, shells, hardware and resonant surfaces for dense collisions of impact, scrape, rattle, fractured pulse and finely detailed interaction, dedicated to their friend and inspiration Tim Barnes.

Dinosaurs With Horns
(Krim Kram)
Restoring Rick Potts and Joseph Hammer's 1983 Dinosaurs With Horns cassette for its first CD release, Krim Kram presents fourteen wonderfully dislocated home recordings where Optigan loops, reel-to-reel manipulation, Casios, toy electronics, musical saw and thrift-store sound fragments collide in a woozy LAFMS-bred mixture of musique concrte, primitive sampling, mutant exotica and spontaneous lo-fi invention.
Feery, Amanda
NEST
(Krim Kram)
Composer Amanda Feery, with guitarist/electronic musician Declan Synnott, builds a 43-minute electroacoustic "Mass for the Tenant" from organ recordings made at St. Fin Barre's Cathedral in Cork, choral recordings by 4 in a Bar, electronics, tin whistle and guitar, examining home as sanctuary and contested space through themes of displacement, occupation and belonging.

Vrhaltnis
(Krim Kram)
Drawing on live and studio recordings made in Switzerland in 2005 and 2006 and rediscovered nearly two decades later, Antoine Chessex and Dave Phillips reshape archival material into two extended works of musique concrete, noise and dense electronics, threaded with spectral voices from the Swiss Silvesterchlausen tradition and transformed through layering, decomposition and temporal dislocation.
