Double bassist Alan Niblock and percussionist Mark Wastell engage in an intimate exploration of acoustic sound and spontaneous interaction on Dancing With Dragonflies, recorded live at London's Hundred Years Gallery in 2026. Across six improvisations, the duo creates a shifting landscape of resonant textures, subtle gestures, and unexpected rhythmic encounters.

Niblock's double bass provides deep vibrations, bowed resonances, and percussive string sounds, while Wastell, a central figure in British experimental improvisation and founder of Confront Recordings, contributes a finely detailed vocabulary of percussion and extended techniques. Their exchanges move freely between delicate, nearly silent passages and more concentrated bursts of sound, allowing individual gestures to develop into complex, overlapping textures.

Rather than relying on predetermined structures or conventional jazz interplay, the musicians emphasize attentive listening, the physical qualities of their instruments, and the expressive possibilities of space and silence. The resulting music is both restrained and exploratory, with a sense of openness that allows even the smallest sounds to become significant.
