Descriptions, Reviews, &c.

The compositions of Rubedo' ro's new release span a period of six years, since its gestation to its current realisation, based on many processes and experiences from Eguiluz's life. She references both an inner journey lived in solitude and silence, and the magic of travel and meetings that give life to each song. The songs represent the musical landscape of today, sung in multiple tongues and languages, and adapting jazz and folklore, classical and contemporary, improvisation and writing. The songs and music maintain a sense of poetry, open sound, imagination and a secret wish that the music can add a touch of beauty, joy and humanity to the world."-adapted from the French translation of Géraldine Eguiluz' description

Artist Biographies

"Nova Scotian cellist Sheila Hannigan graduated from the Université de Montréal with a Master's in Performance under the direction of M. Yuli Turovsky. She also participated in masterclasses in Banff and Switzerland, and was the recipient of a bursary from the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec to study non-classical improvisation techniques with M. Eugene Friesen of the Berklee College in Boston.

She can be heard regularly with Montreal ensembles such as l'Orchestre Métropolitain, l'Opéra de Montréal, I Musici de Montréal, the Nouvel Ensemble Moderne, the SMCQ, La Piétà, Allegra Chamber Music, The Montreal Chamber Music Festival, and the Festival de Musique de Chambre de la Baie des Chaleurs.

Also interested in non-classical music, Ms Hannigan is a member of QAT - contemporary music and improvisation, the arab-jazz ensemble Absinthe, Cordâme trio, Persian singer Azam Ali, and the Romulo Larrea Tango Ensemble, with whom she has toured Europe, the US and Canada. She is presently touring with Danse Lhasa Danse.

Ms Hannigan also regularly collaborates with popular, world music, and jazz artists, such as Pierre Lapointe, Bia, Coral Egan, Sylvie Paquette, Diane Dufresne, and Remi Bolduc, to name a few. She was a guest soloist for the Canada-wide tour of The Tea Party, and can be heard on soundtracks of many films and multidisciplinary projects."

"Stéphane Diamantakiou deploys his music in contexts of improvisation and interpretation, both in jazz and new music circles. He builds a personal repertoire with innovative timbral research mixed with different tuning possibilities. Solo, his music unfolds in dialogue, with the acoustic space in which he is located and with encounters which are like so many resonant coves found throughout the navigation. Overall, his sprawling research inspires innovative compositions with daring hybridizations.

Stéphane is the recipient of the François Marcaurelle prize from the 2019 OFF Jazz Festival, a grant holder from the Conseil des Arts de Montréal and the Canada Council for the Arts."
