Stefan Wolpe (1902-1972) was a composer noted for atonal compositions, often associated with the Bauhaus, and who also had an interest in folk and jazz music. Born in Berlin, he eventually settled in NYC and became an influential teacher of such noted musicians as Morton Feldman and Charles Wuorinen. In the 50's Wolpe was generally ignored by the classical music world but was welcomed in the company of NY abstract expressionist painters. This association affected Wolpe's thinking, developing a sense of spatial proportion in his compositions through the 60's. As director of the Black Mountain College he had time to work out his theories of 12-tone music in light of his new spatial sense. Enactment for Three Pianos was written in 1953 to express these ideas. Edition of 3000 CDs.
