Recorded amid the coastal quiet of Yachats, Oregon, in November 2021 and May 2023, Yachats captures the delicate electro-acoustic chemistry of husband-and-wife duo Juice Machine: Heather Chessman (tapes, electronics) and Roger Smith-also known from his Chefkirk project (electronics, tapes). Their music operates at the intersection of musique concrète, field recordings, and lo-fi electronics, layering samples and tape loops into beguiling collages. Tragically, Yachats stands as one of Heather Chessman's final recorded statements; she was an experimental artist born in 1977 in Windsor, Ohio, and passed away in early 2024.
