While the album's moniker most obviously alludes to its chronological position in the TGB canon, Room4 also suggests the demarcation of a specific paradigm or zone, a metaphysical lab (or playground) for advanced exploration and visionary development, codified within self-regulated boundaries. These bespoke frontiers allow Carolino, Delgado and Frazao to paint with confidence, license and liberating zeal, to continually push at plastic parameters, exhausting every eventuality inside a pulsating, creative framework. "Mário Manuel Barrela da Silva Delgado ( Águeda , October 21, 1962 ) is a Portuguese guitarist from the areas of jazz, fusion, jazz rock and experimental music, with several participations in projects of other musical areas. Mário Delgado is one of the most active guitar players in the Portuguese musical scene, either because of his own personality or because his technique and musical ability, coupled with a very personal and innovative expression and language, make him a very sought-after musician for the most various stylistic areas.

Mário Delgado was born in 1962 in Águeda . In Lisbon, he began his musical studies at the Escola de Jazz do Hot Clube de Portugal , in the classes of Zé Eduardo and David Gausden , where he participated in several combos and groups formed by students. He also later devoted himself to classical guitar, studying with José Peixoto and Piñero Nagy at the Academy of Music Amateurs of Lisbon . During his initial phase he participated in several groups with David Gausden , Carlos Martins , Maria João , Nana Sousa Dias , and played with several foreign musicians who moved to Portugal, which consolidated their bases in jazz, and defined a very musical personality ideosyncratic and at the same time open and eclectic. He participated in the cycle "Improvised Music on the Terrace of the Fronteira Palace" in 1992, at the "I National Encounter of Guitars" in the same year, in the Galveias Palace, in the cycle "Concerto de Guitras II" in 1993, and finally in "Indetermination in Music from the Renaissance to the twentieth century, "included in the City of Lisbon celebrations in the same year, with a trio created in 1992, with guitarist José Peixoto and percussionist José Salgueiro. This trio recorded the CD "Taifa" in March 1993, in which Arab and Mediterranean sonorities spread so closely linked to the Portuguese musical heritage.

In May 1993 he performs live the soundtrack of the ballet "Vozes Caladas", by the choreographer Amélia Bentes and music by José Peixoto, in shows of Companhia de Dança de Almada.

In 1994 he made the arrangements for the album 'Raiano' by Janita Salomé, also forming part of the musicians who recorded it. He made several concerts with the "Orquestra Som do Mundo" and with the saxophonist Carlos Martins.

In 2000 Mário Delgado composed the "Filactera" project, dedicated to his comic book heroes, responding to an order from the Porto Jazz Festival for this year's edition on comic book themes, which are part of his own imagination . [notes 1] For this project brings together the four musicians Alexandre Frazão , drums , Andrzej Olejniczak , tenor saxophone , Carlos Barretto , Contrabass , Claus Nymark Trombone , joined by Mario Delgado himself on guitar . The album is recorded this year for Clean Feed .

With bassist Carlos Barretto he founded "Carlos Barretto Trio", which eventually became the trio project "Carlos Barretto Lokomotiv", which also includes drummer José Salgueiro . Over time, he records with this trio albums such as "Suite of the Earth" (Bab / Dargil / 1998), "Silences" (Musical Focus / 2000), "Lokomotive" / 2002) and "Labyrinths" (Clean Feed / 2010).

In 2004 the TGB project (Tuba, Guitar and Drums) with drummer Alexandre Frazão and Tubista Sérgio Carolino appears , which not only presents an improbable formation, but which does not only result from an experience made up of the sum of the three instruments, but rather an approach innovative and mature approach in which the three instruments contribute to an unprecedented final outcome [footnote 2] , and which can hardly be ascertained a priori . The album brings together compositions and composers as diverse as Jorge Palma ("Only"), Carlos Barretto ("3.4.7"), Thelonious Monk ("Brilliant Corners"), Bud Powell ("Un Poco Loco") and even Led Zeppelin "Black Dog").

In 2010 the TGB group re-edit, this time the album "Evil Things" that has the particularity of having Paulo Ramos as guest. Unlike the previous one, this is a much more rock-oriented album, in a heavy strand, generating what in All.About.Jazz describes itself as a light-metal / jazz aura, fused with a resonance of a jazz- blues-rock, culminating in a tone-diffuse ending .

With bassist Carlos Bica , Delgado performs some concerts on the album "Single" , Bica's first solo album, as his guest. [notes 3]

He is currently a teacher at the Jazz Course at the Amateur Music Academy in Lisbon and at the Jazz degree at the University of Évora .

Participated in 1995 at the "6th Annual IASJ Meeting" in Israel where he represented the Hot Club of Portugal Jazz School. In 2005 he was awarded the Carlos Paredes Prize awarded by the Chamber of Vila Franca de Xira to the Tuba Guitar and Drums of the collective TGB (Carolino, Delgado, Frazão)."
