Canadian composer, improviser and visual artist Lance Austin Olsen joins Belgian improviser and composer Pierre Gerard for Mind Shadows, a three-part electroacoustic work built from an unusually broad palette of guitar, voice, MIDI organ, shruti box, field recordings, amplified objects, sho, ceramic bowl and adhesive paper tape. Rather than functioning as conventional instrumental duets, the three variations unfold as carefully assembled environments, with sustained tones, fragile textures, object sounds and fragments of speech emerging and receding within dense but spacious constructions.

Olsen and Gerard share a strong interest in sound as material, and their collaboration emphasizes transformation, juxtaposition and the ambiguity between performed gesture and composed structure. Gerard's restrained use of electric guitar, sho, voice and objects meets Olsen's layered field recordings, amplified materials and keyboard sonorities, creating passages that can feel austere and nearly static before shifting into more turbulent or opaque terrain. Languid spoken and sung vocal fragments appear intermittently, introducing a distinctly human presence without becoming narrative.

An extract from Olsen's *Shadow Worlds*, performed by Apartment House with Anton Lukoszevieze, is incorporated into the album, extending its collage-like sense of memory and displacement. Mixed and edited jointly by Olsen and Gerard, *Mind Shadows* presents three related but distinct versions of the same conceptual space, balancing abstraction, silence, environmental sound and electroacoustic density.
