Descriptions, Reviews, &c.

Improvising collaborators, percussionist Stephen Flinn and cellist Guilherme Rodrigues, join with Irish improviser and composer Roy Carroll, a member of Splitter Orchestra and who works with the amplification and signal processing of diverse objects. Here the trio are heard performing an extended improvisation in the studio of exotic and transformative sonic interaction. Carroll works primarily with electroacoustic media - transducers, synthesis, feedback, audio recordings, amplification, and software -- generating auditory and psychoacoustic phenomena through multi-layered forms that transform electrical audio signals into disturbed air. Against the strong almost droning throbs of Rodrigues' cello and the unexpected punctuated interactions from Flinn the trio create unusual, rich and highly textured soundscapes that encompass the listener. Really fine work of great pacing and unexpected directions.
