Baldwin, Nat: Autonomia II: Recombinations [CASSETTE w/ DOWNLAOD] (Traced Objects)

Four unedited performances of extreme double bass work from Tripticks label leader Nat Baldwin, merging free playing with extraneous bass sounds, noise and unusual techniques, yielding a muscular set of double bass improvisations, the opening tracks building technique around fractured lyrical expression as the album builds to the closing "negation" of burning intensity.

Descriptions, Reviews, &c.

"Nat Baldwin's AUTONOMIA II: Recombinations braids new music, noise, and free improvisation to generate a distinctive sonic vocabulary for solo double bass. Picking up where AUTONOMIA I: Body Without Organs left off, Baldwin uses an additional bow for preparation alongside an array of extended techniques, exploring the tension between chaos and precision, violence and exuberance, destruction and possibility. Side A emphasizes fractured, gestural dynamics, while Side B explodes with dense, manic energy.

Nat Baldwin is a bassist, improvisor, composer, and songwriter living in Portland, ME. He's released numerous solo albums, most recently, AUTONOMIA I: Body Without Organs on Shinkoyo/Artist Pool, and AUTONOMIA II: Recombinations on Traced Objects. He's also the author of The Red Barn, a collection of experimental short fiction on Calamari Archive, Inc."
