Trumpeter Luís Vicente joins the Spanish saxophonist Liba Villavechia's Trio with double bassist Alex Reveriego and drummer Vasco Trilla for a studio album of four Villavecchia compositions, and one each from Reviriego and Vicente, propelling the band into hard swinging free improv balanced with introspective abstraction and sonic extensions; masterful.

Recorded at La Casamurada in November, 2022, by Jesus Rovira.
"Since forming in March 2021, the Liba Villavecchia Trio have channelled a singular spiritual mien, borne of shared experience, reflection and reminiscence, with previous albums, Zaidin (2022) and Birchwood (2023) capturing the group's esprit de corps in vividly contrasting approaches, hopscotching from propulsive swing and fractious bustle, to smouldering disquisition and evocative abstraction.
Now with the addition of versatile Lisbon-based trumpeter Luis Vicente to their ranks, saxophonist Villavecchia, drummer Vasco Trilla and double-bassist Alex Reviriego amplify this exceptional Iberian hivemind, transforming magic triangle into squared circle.
On Muracik, an intensive Robert Musil-like assay into the collective soul, this auspicious union lays bare a detailed anatomy of regional commonalities - common roots, perceptions, memories and feelings - realised through effusive composition and impassioned improv, alternating between locomotive bursts of punchy horn-led lyricism and enigmatic passages of allusive dissonance.
Together the quartet become conduits for sounds, sonorities and sensations from their native peninsula - the breeze of westerly winds, the clickity chirrup of gossiping cicadas kicking it in the sun, the crunch of arid soil trodden beneath the boots of millenary peasants - while also paying homage to absent friends (both human and non-human), as well as sax titan Ornette Coleman, the icon's influence writ large throughout this most profoundly expressive, revealing and unapologetically emotional of works."-Clean Feed

His first influences were progressive rock and metal, but gradually he developed an interest in a variety of different genres such as jazz, Indian music, African music, klezmer, free improvisation, etc. Since then he has collaborated, toured and recorded with many different bands and projects such as Boi Akih (an ethno-jazz band from the Netherlands), Planeta Imaginario (progressive jazz-rock) October Equus (avant-rock), The Oddvisers (pop-avant), Fine! (indie pop-rock), Mundo Flotante (ethno-jazz-rock), Kaulakau/Cobla Sant Jordi (an ethno-jazz Catalan orchestra), Filthy Habits Ensemble (a jazz octet playing Zappa's and Stravinsky's repertoire), Cows On Trees (a jazz-improv quartet with Susana Santos Silva and Kaja Draksler), Balimonster (an impro-ethno duo with Angel Ontalva), Yedo Gibson-Vasco Trilla duo (an improv sax & drums duo), Outerzone (jazz-core), Reptilian Mambo (mambo free rock), Liba's Traum, etc. In the last years he has been playing and experimenting on the free-improv scene, applying extended techniques to the kit and treating it as a textural-melodic instrument. Blowing, bowing, scratching, playing with hands and all kinds of objects, all is valid to expand the vocabulary of this innovative percussionist. He played with improvisers, such as: Lotte Anker, Marshall Allen, Yedo Gibson, Susana Santos Silva, Kaja Draksler, Jasper Stadhouders, Mikloaj Trzaska, Martin Kuchen, Richard Barrett, Jorma Tapio, Christher Bothen, Marc Stucki, Luc Ex. etc...
