Featuring Sei Miguel on trumpet and direction with Fala Mariam, Nuno Torres, Pedro Lourenco, Bruno Silva, Andre Goncalves, Raphael Soares and Luis Desirat, documenting the final performances of O Carro de Fogo in two 2023 Portuguese concerts, where spacious ensemble architecture, microtonal phrasing and tightly controlled collective interplay affirm Miguel's singular late-period vision.

"Clean Feed Records is deeply honored to announce the release of Viva! O Carro de Fogo de Sei Miguel, a double CD capturing the final, unreleased chapter of one of contemporary jazz's most radical and poetic minds.
This landmark release marks the first posthumous album by the legendary trumpeter, arranger, and bandleader Sei Miguel (1961-2025), who passed away in November 2025. It also serves as the historic final release for Clean Feed Records, closing a monumental 25-year legacy (2001-2026) of documenting groundbreaking avant-garde music.
Viva! documents the raw, meticulous brilliance of O Carro de Fogo de Sei Miguel, a specific, tight-knit formation led by Miguel that spanned over a decade from 2012 to 2023. While the band previously left behind two highly acclaimed records, this third, posthumous installment presents an extraordinary live document of the ensemble's evolving architectural soundscapes.
The double album features a masterful lineup of long-time collaborators who deeply understood Miguel's unique system of spatial organization and microtonal phrasing: Fala Mariam, Nuno Torres, Pedro Lourenco, Bruno Silva, Andre Goncalves, Raphael Soares, and Luis Desirat. Recorded live across two of Portugal's most vital underground cultural hubs-SMUP (Sociedade Musical Uniao Paredense) in Parede and Galeria Ze dos Bois (ZDB) in Lisbon-the tracks preserve the immediate, breathing dialogue between the musicians and the performance spaces.
For Clean Feed Records, this release carries immense emotional and historical weight. Over a 16-year partnership, the label proudly walked alongside Sei Miguel, championing his singular vision. It is profoundly poetic that Clean Feed concludes its own legendary 25-year trajectory of non-stop labor with a work by Miguel, cementing a shared history built on absolute artistic compromise.
While Viva! O Carro de Fogo de Sei Miguel is the first posthumous record to surface since the maestro's passing, it is a treasure trove that listeners can only hope will not be the last. It stands as a vibrant, defiant celebration of life, sound, and the enduring flame of an irreplaceable artist."-Clean Feed
Artist Biographies
• Show Bio for Sei Miguel "Plays his trumpet with complete awareness of the whole Jazz history while dealing, as a music director, with the full spectrum of sound sources in a broad range of innovative (and often strange) solutions, including frequent use of electronics. He has created his own music system, allowing him to take his open pieces to a high degree of perfection. Director, arranger and trumpeter, Sei Miguel considers himself a simple jazzman, which, he says, isn't always easy. Born in 1961, Paris, lived in Brazil and France until settling down in Portugal during the 80's. Since 1986 he has been directing formations of variable geometry. Having performed in Portugal, Germany, Italy and Brazil, among his many regular collaborators are not only guitarists Rafael Toral and Manuel Mota, but also extraordinaire trombone player and painter Fala Mariam and virtuoso percussionist César Burago. Miguel has also written music for theater and ballet." ^ Hide Bio for Sei Miguel • Show Bio for Fala Mariam "Born in Lisbon. Some academic training did not foster in her an interest for musical creation. In 1980, during a trip to the north of India, she intuited the sacred fire of true music, that she will find again in the more initiatic jazz and the gratifying discovery of several trombonists. Sei Miguel´s "sideman" since 1983, she partakes in all his works." ^ Hide Bio for Fala Mariam • Show Bio for Nuno Torres "Studied alto saxophone within a jazz tradition spectrum. His continuous solo experimental research explores a wide scope of sound material through the use of the extended technics. Participates in several ensembles of improvisational music, electro acoustics and reductionism. Collaborates with musicians such as, Ernesto Rodrigues, Ricardo Jacinto, Sei Miguel, Fala Mariam, João Castro Pinto, Rafael Toral, Manuel Mota, David Stackenäs, Travassos, Paulo Raposo, Carlos Santos, Shiori Usui, C. Spencer Yeh, Cyril Bondi and d'incise, and developed projects as CACTO and PinkDraft, In the recent years has been also collaborating in several different projects at the intersection of the performative areas of dance, theatre and the visual arts (PARQUE, Les Voisins, Eye Height, Adriana Sá, Beatriz Cantinho). Participates and curates experimental and community radio initiatives." ^ Hide Bio for Nuno Torres • Show Bio for Pedro Lourenco "Pedro Lourenço is a Portuguese bassist, know for the group Bruxas/Cobras, Bernardo Devlin, and his work with trumpeter Sei Miguel." ^ Hide Bio for Pedro Lourenco • Show Bio for Bruno Silva Bruno Silva, also known as Ondness, Serpente, is a guitarist known for the groups Canzana, lopness, Olive Troops SOS, Osso, Sabre, and Somália. ^ Hide Bio for Bruno Silva • Show Bio for Andre Goncalves "André Gonçalves is a keyboardist and improviser, known for the groups EA, Gigantiq, Stapletape, and Variable Geometry Orchestra." ^ Hide Bio for Andre Goncalves • Show Bio for Raphael Soares "Raphael Soares is a percussionist known for the groups Alförjs, SUNFLARE, and The Sound Of Typewriters." ^ Hide Bio for Raphael Soares • Show Bio for Luis Desirat "Luis Desirat: Self-taught drummer.
