Descriptions, Reviews, &c.

"STHLM svaga plays jazz and free jazz music quietly. They work with the limitations of precipices. Sounds emerge from the precipice of nothing and sit on the edge of existing. Here in this precarious state, a microcosm of detail, expression and effort are magnified. There is an endless exploration in the liminal space of becoming, sounding and decay.

For their new recording Plays Carter, Plays Mitchell, Plays Shepp, they collaborated with jazz icons Archie Shepp, Ron Carter and Roscoe Mitchell who they commissioned "Die Rechnung - Chrystal Stairs - Blues - U-Jama", "Desert Lament" and "Never Sound More!" from respectively. Ron Carter also came to Stockholm and joined the ensemble during the recording of "Desert Lament" for artistic guidance.

In addition to these three commissioned pieces, the album contains an intense (yet still soft) sax/drums duo-version of John Coltrane's composition "Jupiter", as well as a remarkable piano trio rendition of legendary Swedish pianist/composer Per Henrik Wallin's piece "Winter Rhapsody"."-thanatosis produktion

"Niklas Barnö

Probably the best trumpeter player from Sweden.

Best, just simply because he is the musician most far away from defining something with being best, or worse for that part.

Pure honesty, in its best way. Or worse way. As honest is neither good or bad.

Niklas is. And is becoming.

Niklas is human. This is heard in his playing; the haunting crescendo of thoughts, spanning over 50.000 years, blown out through the mouthpiece of his trumpet.

Why? What? Who? How? Now?

He is his own foghorn (Mistlur). Clearing out the dim and artificial with ignited instinct.

He is the leader of the herd of musicians, Je Suis!. And active in groups like Kege Snö, Snus, Se&Hör...

Niklas Barnö and Joel Grip has known each other since they learned how to crawl musically and have been crucial for the development of their music as heard playing together as well as in the music organized together; Umlaut Records Sweden and unique festival Hagenfesten in Dala-Floda."

"Andreas Hiroui Larsson is a Swedish aesthetician, artist, artistic researcher, and musician.

He is a researcher at Stockholm University of the Arts, as part of the artistic research project Lethe (2020-23), which explores forgetfulness as an artistic method. The project is funded by the Swedish Research Council.

Larsson conducts an interdisciplinary artistic practice, in which his method of contextualising aspects of non-idiomatic improvisation, the non-productive attitude, and pluralist aesthetics, enables the concepts and materials to play the roles and fulfil the purposes of one another. Thus in terms of ontology, his works are - be it contemporary music, experimental literature, or digital graphic music scores - as much works of music and philosophy as they are works of visual art.

His works are published by Firework Edition and Firework Edition Records (SWE), Peter Lang (DE/US), Nutida Musik (SWE), Relative Pitch Records (US), Lethe (SWE/NO), Found You Recordings (SWE), Olof Bright (SWE/AT), Thanatosis Produktion (SWE), Pink Pamphlet (US/SWE), Ermatell (RU), and FMR (GB). His works are held in the collections of The Nobel Library of the Swedish Academy (SE), Princeton University Library (US), University Library Dresden (DE), Stockholm Public Library (SE), and Sachsska Children's Hospital in Stockholm (SE).
