"The pianist and composer Jacques Demierre was born in 1954 in Geneva. His musical itinerary is varied: improvisation, jazz contemporary music. As a composer, he is mainly self-taught. He writes for concert use, for the stage and for modern dance. He has received commissions for both jazz and contemporary music. The recording by singer Magali Schwartz of three pieces inspired by her voice is testimony to a rare artistic experience. Je deviendrai Médée, Désir d'azur: musique de danse and Bleu are the results of an intense collaboration which began in 1985-86 and, via vocal and instrumental improvisation, gradually led to a kind of common vocal territory, a veritable research laboratory which produced compositions as well as new ideas for vocal experimentation."

Between 1974 and 1988, Vincent Barras obtained a degree in medicine, as well as a BA from the University of Geneva. He acquired a postgraduate training in history and philosophy of science at the University of Paris I in 1988, then at the Welcome Institute for the History of Medicine in London in 1994. Vincent Barras is moving towards the history of medicine, joining the Louis-Jeantet Institute of History of Medicine at the University of Geneva when he was founded in 1990. In 1995, he was appointed associate professor at the University of Lausanne, then professor in 2001. He is director of the University Institute of History of Medicine and Health of the Faculty of Biology and Medicine of the University of Lausanne. He is interested in several areas of the history of medicine, including, among others, ancient medicine and the Enlightenment (notably Dr. Samuel Auguste Tissot), psychiatry but also social and legal medicine, philosophy of medicine. He teaches a history of medicine to the students of the University of Lausanne, as well as to the High School of Art and Design (HEAD) in Geneva.

He is the author of the book Po�sies Sonores with Nicholas Zurbrugg in 1992, and also publishes essays in magazines, catalogs and specialized works, on poetry, music, contemporary art, the history of medicine, body, psychiatry. Editor of the review then Contrechamps editions, he organizes between 1987 and 2008 the sound poetry nights in the framework of La B�tie-Festival de Gen�ve and the association Roaratorio. He is also the author of translations of works by Robert Lax, John Cage, Georges Seferis, Anton Webern, Simon Cutts, Edoardo Sanguineti, Galen, Eugen Gomringer, Nora Gomringer,..."
