Huvudbry
Piggelin-rundan [CASSETTE w/ DOWNLOAD]
(Huvudbry Recordings)
Essentially a solo album from composer and improviser based in NYC Hampus Öhman-Frölund, this extended work uses a zither as its basis, augmented by a MicroKorg and the voice of Huvudbry bandmate Avery Leigh Draut, using no set tempo and framed and inspired around a picture of the woods near where Öhman-Frölund grew up; really lovely and inspired work.
Huvudbry
Det ar ingen ordning pa allting [CASSETTE w/ DOWNLOAD]
(Huvudbry Recordings)
Drummer Hampus Ohman-Frolund (Apuh!) leads the Huvudbry septet of structured rock forms, with an intriguing orchestration of trumpet, lap steel, double bass, guitars, keyboard and voice, using intervals of unusual sonic experimentation and field recordings to create a unique album that bassist Mats Dimming refers to as "A mix of Captain Beefheart, Yann Tiersen & Swedish House Mafia".
Ronn, Christian / Bob Bellerue
Intoku Inversions
(Anarchy Moon Recordings/Nishe)
Beautiful long-form drones and harmonic interactions develop and are then shaken up with sonic deformations and collisions, returning to beautiful environments and then reversed once again, from the duo of sonic explorers Bob Bellerue and Christian Ronn, recording in Copenhagen using organs, electronics, winds, and feedback to create these wonderfully alien domains.
Chansons du Crepuscule (Helene Breschand / Elliott Sharp)
Aube
(zOaR Records)
A collection of original songs and interpretations inspired by Jane Birkin and Serge Gainsbourg, from vocalist Hélène Breschand, also performing on harp, electronics & field recordings, in a duo with Elliott Sharp, who creates grooves and instrumental environments on guitar, synth, bass, drum programming & electronics, each song beautifully fractured and rich in detail.
Other Plastics (Dominic Coles / Hunter Brown)
Overtime Liquor
(Creative Sources)
Unusual glitch and extreme electronics improvised by the duo of New York artist Dominic Cole and Chicago/NY artist Hunter Brown (Sound Tribe Sector Nine), using approaches including glitch, noise & circuit bending in 9 pieces with tongue-in-cheek titles, balancing erratic moments with exploratory sections and near silence, an interesting and enigmatic album of aberrant electronics.
Parkins, Zeena / Jeff Kolar
Scale
(Two Rooms Records)

Grids
(Shhpuma)
Bringing together NY drummer/percussionist John Hollenbeck, also on prepared piano, with Berlin bassist Bernhard Meyer for an album that blends textural rock, electronic and jazz approaches in 9 elusively calm yet structurally turbulent pieces, using complex systems of cross rhythms against atmospheric immersion, occasionally disruptive but generally eccentrically controlled and exploratory.
Kid Millions / Sarah Bernstein
Broken Fall (VINYL)
(577 Records)
Pulling inspiration from disparate influences such as early liturgical music, Ornette Coleman, Laurie Anderson, Yoko Ono, Milford Graves, and composers Morton Feldman and Lou Harrison, Kid Millions and Sarah Bernstein create a cyclical form of spontaneous thematic music through powerful electronics, wild vocalizations, and unrelenting drum textures.
