Descriptions, Reviews, &c.

"36 tracks spanning 40 years of groundbreaking and provocative music, released through NYC's legendary Knitting Factory Records. The first CD is devoted to songs recorded with Lucas' psychedelic jazz-rock band Gods and Monsters, and the second CD is devoted to solo works, rarities and collaborations.

Drawing on a wealth of material including rare and never-before released tracks, the double album offers ample evidence of Gary's trailblazing and unique career, going back to his earliest appearances on record and stage with Captain Beefheart (Don Van Vliet) in the early 80's, to his groundbreaking work with the amazing Jeff Buckley (Gary co-wrote and played on Jeff's anthems 'Grace' and 'Mojo Pin'), through his extensive cross-genre legacy of 30-plus albums.

Special guests include Jeff Buckley, Alan Vega (Suicide), David Johansen (NY Dolls), Jerry Harrison (Talking Heads), Ernie Brooks (Modern Lovers), Billy Ficca (Television), Nona Hendryx (Labelle), Chinese star Feifei Yang, French diva Elli Medeiros, avant-legend Mary Margaret O'Hara, Cuba's #1 dance band Los Van Van, UK dub-master Adrian Sherwood, singer Rolo McGinty (The Woodentops) and others."-Knitting Factory

"Elli Medeiros (born 18 January 1956 in Montevideo, Uruguay) is a singer and actress.

The Stinky Toys

Medeiros moved to Paris, France, at the age of 14, dropped out of high school a couple of years later and joined the punk band The Stinky Toys.

Elli et Jacno

After the group disbanded, Medeiros joined another Stinky Toy member Jacno to form the electropop duo Elli et Jacno. Together they released several albums, one of them the soundtrack to an Éric Rohmer film Les nuits de la pleine lune.

The singer went solo in 1986. The songs, "Toi mon toit" (1986) and "A bailar calypso" (1987), were big hits in France and had a more Latin sound than her previous records.

She sang back-up vocals on several of pop star Etienne Daho's songs from his 1996 album Eden. She also helped co-write his song "Me manquer" from the same album.

Elli Medeiros appears in a number of French films and has worked with, among others, Olivier Assayas and Philippe Garrel."
