"Three expatriate Americans, brought up in the USA, and profoundly influenced by European sensibilities. This is the first four pieces of a concert at Splendor performance space in Amsterdam. The titles are a respectful nod to the late Steve Lacy, a friend and profound influence.
Barre Phillips has had an exemplary life as a creative artist, encountering many of my all-time heroes, among them Eric Dolphy, Ornette Coleman, Paul Bley, Jimmy Giuffre, Evan Parker and Joe Maneri, during the 65 years of his professional life. Along with Stu Martin and John Surman he was a member of 'The Trio' in the '70's, making improvisations of very diverse textures. Barre recorded the first solo bass recording. I am not a guy who calls up his heroes to play, but I did it with Barre, and am happy that he accepted and was so positive during our three days together.
Gerry is an old friend and colleague; our recording relationship goes back to Home Game (Ramboy #02), and I am very happy that he is now living in Lucerne, Switzerland, so we can play together more often. His long tenures with Anthony Braxton and BassDrumBone resulted in some very important recordings of creative music."-Ramboy
