Translating to "this is not", the experimental Montreal trio of Michel F. Cote, Alexandre St-Onge and Bernard Falaise have for 20 years experimented in sound, bridging rock, experimental and improvised forms, here in a 3-CD retrospective of studio works from the last 16 years with collaborators Jean Derome, Ellwood Epps, Sam Shalabi, Philippe Lauzier, and Christof Migone.
"In celebration of his 20th anniversary, KG offers 33 previously unpublished pieces of music who shape an exhaustive point of view on this ever-creative collective. Those were recorded in the studio over a period of 16 years (1998/2014)."-Sono Sordo
"Almost no one believes it, but it's been twenty years since the Klaxon Gueules exist. The best experimental rock formation coming out of Canada in the last - precisely - twenty years celebrates the anniversary with a box of three CDs in which recovers thirty-three previously unreleased tracks in the studio between 1998 and 2014, each of the discs has a title but no one has any indication of the recording dates, a clear sign that they must be understood as a single work without temporal links.
"Joli rouge" starts with an exaggeration of dramatized radio waves and continues with rhythmic convulsions pierced by industry noises, then comes the first of three first dishes in the form of a visionary techno-rock space (Veut tout), then the second that it is a pointillism of solidly concealed notes and chords (Le maintenant cible) and finally the third first which is a drowsy sequence of out-of-focus jazz-noir ("clefs"?). So a sorbet that reconnects to the appetizers and then the three second courses, the mysterious rhythmic modular Gros-Kost, the loose and levitating vibrating guitar Enterrement colorise and his sequel Se spiraler. To close a dolcetto (Germaine Salerou) and some fruit (Plus radicalement negatif). You may have doubts about whether it is rock but not that it is not avant, but trust me: it is rock improvisation on jazz canvas.
"Pale gris" is less cohesive: environmental provocations, old-fashioned jazz-rock, acid rock scat (Jusqu'ici abominable), catapults on a single agreement (Grand modest) form a temporary picture, sometimes uncertain and however explicitly study tests without an exact calculation of the consequentiality of the pieces. Occasionally very nice, overall no. Finally, "Weird Mauve", which is of the same paste as "Pale gris" but shows off some really bizarre and curious pieces for the Klaxon Gueule: a percussive frenzy with a Middle Eastern aftertaste (Voler?), A percussion that adds a guitar to the deliciously chirping (Dissolue, insaisissable), a para-electronic exercise that reminded me of the Residents (d'Hernani).
In short, it is said with respect but these three CDs are dedicated to the extreme fans of the Canadian training and collect a series of discards, although sometimes they are well made. Finally, it should be noted that, as in the case of the Just Got Death and Pink Saliva records (see the Altrisuoni section), this box is also printed in only 100 numbered copies. to the triptych in its entirety.-Par Stefano Isidoro Bianchi, Blow Up
