Descriptions, Reviews, &c.

"We praised the Adam Caine trio some years ago for their "Thousandfold" album on the No Business label, and now the New York guitarist is back with a duo recording together with Federico Ughi on drums. Like on the trio album, the fully improvised music is as direct as can be, with rock-influenced playing, but jazz in nature. On the opening track the guitar is raw, with feedback piercing through, and the drums are energetic and powerful, violent even, as on tracks like "Primal Scene/Sister Fight" for instance. The duo also has another side, closer to free improv, with in-the-moment sounds bouncing of strings and skins - as on "Cardboard" - or more elaborated soundscapes as in "Floyd", or more exploratory of new melodic sounds in "Dawn At The Edge Of The Universe". Despite the limited line-up, the approach is quite varied, with interesting new ideas, but that's possibly also its weakness, because the less violent pieces somehow hesitate and linger too much to my taste. Fans of modern guitar improvisation will love it ...."-freejazzblog.org

"THE MOON was conceived in an instant. Drummer Federico Ughi happened to run into the guitarist Adam Caine just before setting out on a solo tour and spontaneously invited him along. From the beginning, they played a wide array of venues, from arts centers in Grand Rapids to sports bars in Ohio and everything in between. THE MOON has toured nationally 4 times since forming in 2011. On this new album, all those miles travelled in service to the music come through in the sound.

The titles in the new album are inspired by the band's experiences touring. During hours spent in the car, they imagine a final showdown between good and evil, casting friends, enemies, fellow musicians and acquaintances from the road in all the roles.

THE MOON cultivates a uniquely personal mixture of the improvisational fearlessness of jazz, the bombastic energy of rock, and the sonic exploration of 20th century classical and electronic music. Something that was important to Adam and Federico when putting this album together - is that it has a strong large-scale formal structure from beginning to end. It's a complete listening experience, an improvised symphony."-577 Records
