"Commissioned by L'Off Festival de jazz de Montréal, Tremblement de fer was premiered as the opening concert of the festival's 10th edition at Montreal's Old Port's Shed 16 on June 18, 2009. The composition features Labbé's atypical mix of contemporary music and avant-jazz and has been rearranged for a 13-piece band including a string quartet and a strong woodwind and brass section combined with the powerful drive of an electric rhythm section. Presented as a 7-piece suite, Tremblement de fer is resolutely non-linear music, iconoclastic and, at times, savage."-Ambiences Magnetiques
"[Translation] Premiered to open the 10th Off Montreal Jazz Festival (2009) with 50 musicians, the Tremblement de fer suite has now been committed to rrecord in a studio version rearranged for 12 musicians. Most parts of this suite are a normal extension of the direction traced by Manivelle, Pierre Labbé's previous record on Ambiances Magnétiques (with his quartet) - Serpents et échelles from that record is even revisited - in big band form. Rather powerful arrangements, occasionally heavy though mostly lively. The music is carried by a carefully assembled ensemble including, among others, Jean Derome, Bernard Falaise, Guillaume Dostaler, and Pierre Ta
