Two sets of New York tenor saxophonist Stephen Gauci and an impressive rhythm section playing with alternately Broo Magnus and Mats Aleklint, live at the Glenn Miller Cafe in Stockholm, 2007.
New York tenor saxophonist Stephen Gauci recorded live at Stockholm's Glenn Miller Cafe over two nights in July of 2007. The basis of the quartet is Gauce with the rhythm section of Ingebrigt Haker Flaten (The Thing, Scorch Trio) on bass and Fredrik Rundqvist, a Swedish drummer with his own quintet and very active on the European scene. For the first disc Mats Aleklint, a member of the Angles group with Magnus Broo, performs on trombone; on the second disc Magnus Broo, who performs with Ken Vandermark, Paal Nilssen-Love, &c, takes Aleklint's place on trumpet. Both groupings are focused, working in medium tempo and high energy grooves, handling original compositions and covers with free-flowing power and ability, making a disc of two impressive sessions.
