Descriptions, Reviews, &c.

"Shiraishi has worked out of Queens, NY since the early 1990's and regularly plays solo sets in the NYC subway system which have become the stuff of legend. Much of Tamios' solo aesthetic is built off of interactions with a physical space. These ten archival duos represent some of Tamio's work with like-minded improvisors."-Relative Pitch

Artist Biographies

"Shiraishi Tamio is a sax player. He was born in Japan, and now he lives in N.Y. He has taken part in various avant-garde movernents in japan. For example he took part in 1st generation of "Hushitusya ", organaized by Keiji Haino.

Also he took part in conspiration "Night of heavenly enema" , historical Japanese avant-garde album. Also he plays in many japanese avant-garde groups, for example Tako, Jagatara..

He often plays sax in outdoor situations in the city. He has performanced sax inprovisation act in N.Y, Berlin, and in Tokyo.

His sax improvisation is quite different from jazz or ordinary "free" musical performance. His playing is not so loud as like as ordinary avant-gard playing. His playing is rather similar to sound of wind, water, and any other natural "noise" sounds."

"Leila Bordreuil is a Brooklyn based cellist and composer from Aix-en-Provence, France. She works in the realm of Noise music, improvisation, New Music and sound-art. Her cello playing is often improvised, and mainly focuses on texture variations and a collage of phantom overtones and pitched utterances. Through an original vocabulary of extended techniques, preparations, and imaginative amplification methods, her instrument is used as an abstract resonant body to challenge conventional cello practice. Her composed works draw from a similar texture-based musical aesthetic, but also focus on the relationship between sound and space. In her site-specific electro-acoustic compositions, architecture is the foundation of the piece and musicality arises from an organized spacialization of sound.

The name drop:

As per the tradition of improvised music, Leila has maintained a very active concert schedule sharing the stage with a wide range of artists including Marina Rosenfeld, Eli Keszler, Tom Chiu (Flux quartet), Anthony Coleman, Peter Evans, Nate Wooley, SENYAWA, C. Spencer Yeh, Toshimaru Nakamura, Tetuzi Akiyama, Susan Alcorn, Ingrid Laubrock, Zeena Parkins, Bill Nace, Lee Ranaldo, Weasel Walter, Kim Gordon, Chris Corsano, and more.

Notable venues where she has performed include The Whitney Museum, The Kitchen, MoMA PS1, Issue Project Room, the Stone, Roulette, Pioneer Works, Cafe Oto (London, UK), All Ears Festival (Oslo, NO), Ausland (Berlin, DE), Ftarri (Tokyo, JP), the Heresy Series for Women in Sound (Manila, PHL), and many basements across the U.S.

Leila is a 2017 MacDowell Fellow in Composition, and was a 2016 artist-in-residence at Issue Project Room."

"Tim Dahl is a professional electric and double bass player, vocalist, keyboardist and composer living in New York City. He is best known as the bass player of the noise-rock band Child Abuse and Lydia Lunch's Retrovirus. He also writes and performs for the jazz ensemble Pulverize The Sound.

Dahl has toured extensively throughout North and South America, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and Japan. He has performed with many notable musicians, composers and performers including Yusef Lateef, Archie Shepp, Eugene Chadbourne, Tatsuya Yoshida, Von Freeman, Stanley Jordan, Mary Halvorson, Malcolm Mooney, Marc Ribot, Brian Chase, Hamid Drake, Elliott Sharp, Weasel Walter, Marni Nixon, Peter Evans, Kevin Shea, Mick Barr, Lydia Lunch, Jan Terri, The Bureau of Atomic Tourism, Ava Mendoza etc.

As a bass player he is notable for unique style and technical savviness. Clifford Allen of Tiny Mixtapes' wrote "Tim Dahl [...] approaches his well-worn axe with a battery of pedals and loops, combining determinate speed with murkier sonics to create a landscape not unlike a harsh, speed-freak variant on Hugh Hopper."

Dahl currently lives in Brooklyn and is an active member in the music scene there."
