"11 duos for Wolfgang Fuchs. From the late 1990s to the early 2000s, Jerome and I toured and recorded with the great Wolfgang Fuchs. It was a formative experience for both of us. All titles are quotes by Fuchs. He was a constant source of wisdom and humor. The Bryerton / Smith duo started in the mid 1990s with Bryerton randomly showing up and Smith's Oakland apartment. He would drive down from Santa Barbra and there would be sessions all day, duos and and trios with other musicians, often Marco Eneidi.
When Bryerton moved to Chicago, it made sense to change the scale they were working on to continue. Of all the musicians in world, Wolfgang Fuchs seemed to be the best match. Fuchs was contacted and the trio toured the USA and Europe and issued a critically acclaimed CD: Three October Meetings - the third release on Balance Point Acoustics.
Working with Fuchs was a formative experience. He was completely dedicated to the music. No wasted sounds. He was a constant source of humor and inspiration for Smith and Bryerton. At some point live recordings by this trio will be released.
These duos were recorded in Edwardsville, Il in Sept. 2020. It is released as a CD in a 6 panel eco-pak with four drawings by the great German artist Max Neumann, a longtime friend of Fuchs who did all the covers for his FMP LPs and CDs and a bookmark of a banner made for an improvisation workshop in Oakland, Ca where the CDs takes its title. The track titles all come from things Fuchs said at one time or another."-Balance Point Acoustics
