The title aptly describes the intense excitement and exhilaration of NY guitarist Brandon Seabrook's second trio album on Astral Spirits, performed with rhythm giants Cooper-Moore on Diddley Bow (a single-string bass) and free jazz drum legend Gerald Cleaver, the two creating a percolating interactive foundation for Seabrooks powerfully expressive and investigative playing.

Originally planned for release in conjunction with their appearance at the 2020 Pitchfork Festival, saxophonist Dustin Laurenzi's Snaketime Octet celebrates the theoretical 104th birthday of eccentric NY composer Moondog with 4 tracks intended for his 2019 Snaketime album, performed with Jason Stein, Nick Mazzarella, Chad McCullough, two drummers and bass.

Takamitsu Ohta, known for his work with artists Anne-F Jacques & Ryoko Akama, in three unexpected recordings using the microphone and speaker of small devices with recording and playback ability, from five to fifteen such linked devices creating surprisingly stacatto and expressive voices from feedback, each piece aptly named for the resulting articulation each combination creates.

The long collaboration between saxophonist Mike Pride and drummer/percussionist Jonathan Moritz is concentrated in these superb studio recording, bring great clarity to the far-ranging and detailed interactions both bring to their improvisations through unusual technique, an expansive arsenal of percussive devices, and wonderfully inventive attitudes.

Francesco Gregoretti of the bands Strongly Imploded, Grizzly Imploded and Oddly Imploded (Shhpuma) joins forces with double bassist Renato Grieco (Carl Ludwig Hubsch) to create an unusual set of improvisations on the lower end, using drums and double bass, and described as "a primordial and grotesque sound; a clumsy symbiont of feedback, strings and skins"; intriguing.

An unissued album from Bavarian experimenter & songwriter Konrad Strumpfel and "The Set", the Czech duo of Herbert Lukundra & Josif Afkak, who added their contributions to Strumpfel's work which had been sent to them by post, the strengthening of the "Iron Curtain" between the USSR & Europe in the late 80s then prohibiting the release of their collaboration.

California-based sound experimenter and noise artist Crank Sturgeon, aka Matt Anderson, in a limited 2-sided C32 cassette release detailed with red foil and artwork printed onto transparent film, each side a strangely diverse journey in noise, voice, sound collage and unusual improvisation, inexplicable, generally indescribable, and joyfully weird.

Recorded in two studios — Saint-Petersburg, Russia and Zurich, Switzerland — capturing 5 encounters between experimental improvisers Ilia Belorukov performing on modular synthesizer, and Jason Kahn, who steps away from his electronics and drums in favor of stark vocalizing, each providing perfectly caustic responses to the other's intense and determined tactics.

Despite using traditional instrumentation, the Montreal trio of pianist Lisa Cay Miller, guitarist Vicky Mettler, and bassist Raphael Foisy-Couture avoid sounding anything but traditional, through preparations and a mischievous attitude transforming their instruments and applying them to a highly interactive and darkly optimistic set of very unique dialogs.

Working extensively together in recording and touring, Japanese experimental sound artist Takuji Naka and Canadian ex-pat Tim Olive living in Kobe, Japan, recorded thise seven improvisations in the studio in Kyoto, 2019, using lo-fi electronics, distressed cassette tape and self-made instruments to create a unique sound in unusual dialogs of mysterious sonic motion.

The second release for the Chicago trio of Keefe Jackson on tenor & sopranino saxophones, Jim Baker on piano & synthesizer, and Julian Kirshner on drums, following their 2016 album The Noisy Miner, are heard in two performances a year apart at the Hungry Brain, each an extended exploration of remarkably compatible, creative and uniquely lyrical collective collaboration.av

Jessica Pavones String Ensemble with Pavone and Abby Swidler on violas, and Erica Dicker and Angela Morris on violins, are recorded live at Firehouse 12 in a set of Pavone compositions combining traditional notation and improvisation, with a focus on sustained collaborative playing and the application of ideas exploring the healing potential of sonic vibrations.

Sound artists Richard Francis and Fran de Waard (Vital Weekly) developed these recordings in de Waard's studio in The Netherlands, using modular electronics, field recordings, computer, and tapes, each side a section of an extended composition from delicate static and complex electrical textures to the bursting of loud drones.

Chicago sound artists Jayve Montgomery on saxophone & flute and Nick Turner on Mellotron, present an epic two part work of effected sound, two contemplative pieces of twilight environments, the first mysteriously punctuated with distant percussive elements, the second a hopeful work of glacial melody and harmonic tones; a great sonic companion under the influence.

A series of ominous duos on the dark side from NY improviser Jeremiah Cymerman on clarinets & pedals, and Charlie Looker (Extra Life, Psalm Zero) on guitars & piano, each of the five pieces exploring murky caverns of warmly bleak environments rendered through Looker's deep piano & guitar work, perforated by cracks of light through Cymerman's riffs & exclamations.

Using a variety of extended techniques, Chicago cellist Fred Lonberg-Holm conjures a barrage of multiphonics, interwoven timbral excursions and minuscule textural knots lined along the peripheral architecture of these pieces, captured live in the studio at at Namouche Studios, in Lisbon in 2019 for a series of 10 fascinating and distinctive free improvisations.

From the depths of the deepest electroacoustic sea, the duo of Lisa Cameron on berimbauophone, percussion & devices and Sandy Ewen on guitar & devices release the second of their "Sea Creatures" series: two cassettes of dark aquatic audio, one recorded in the studio and the other during their 2019 Texas tour celebrating the release of the first album.

Formed in 2005, the Chicago trio Haptic of sound artists and composers Steven Hess, Joseph Clayton Mills, and Adam Sonderberg, release their 2nd album on Notice Recordings, a cinematic set of four compositions that use tense ambiance to introduce both visceral and observational sound, intense journeys of unpredictable movement, insinuation and curious culminations.

A live solo recording made using the amplified and processed sounds of snow, hail, and wind, captured by sound artist Max Hamel using a piezoelectric disc taped to a metal plate stuck out his window during the first snow storm of 2019, processed in real time using resonant filters, delay lines, and chaotic processors, the whole edited for these two compositions.

Using a handful of improvisations from French horn, bass guitar, voice, electronics and objects collaged with field recordings made separately, Ann Guthrie and Billy Gomberg reflect on their enforced domesticity during the 2020 lockdowns, using the time to expand on the balance of electronics & objects in relation to acoustic instruments, creating detailed abstractions.

Frond, aka Richard Bultitude, is a UK sound artist who creates rich soundscapes of guitar, synthetics, field recordings and other ethereal elements, the mix of live instrumentation over drone and ambient environments adding warmth and personality to beautifully crafted works, each exuding a sense of inner calm through innately melodic music replete with detail.

A "document of sonic purging" from New York sound artists Merche Blasco and Gryphon Rue, a combination of compositions and electroacoustic improvisation using an unusual collection of instruments--EMS Synthi AKS, modular synth chain, harmonium, voice, percussion and musical saw--applied through diverse approaches to create inspired landscapes and curious constructions.

Using unusual techniques and a collection of instruments that include the standard Western instruments of cello and flute, along with guembri, sulittu, dilli kaval, bass xun, launeddas (mancosedda, tumbu), plus the application of objects against strings, the Italian duo of Antonio Bertoni & Stefano Leonardi engage in seven remarkable and assertive improvised duos.

During the lockdown of 2020 clarinetist and composer Aaron Novik recorded the sounds of clarinet, bass clarinet and contrabass clarinet, using those samples to create this 10-part composition, a work of active counterpoint and minimalist structures with a playful sense of humor, the character of the samples bringing forth both acoustic and electronic evocations.
