Rodrigues, Ernesto / Fala Mariam / Andre Hencleeday / Seu Barradas: February Find (Creative Sources)

Captured live as part of the Creative Sources Improvised Music Series in Lisbon, this quartet performance brings viola, crackle box, alto trombone, piano, and percussion into a finely balanced improvisation where texture and restraint guide the music's unfolding, revealing a deeply interactive dialogue shaped by close listening, fragile electronics, and quietly evolving sonic relationships.

Artist Biographies

"He has been playing the violin for 30 years and in that time has played all genres of music ranging from contemporary music to free jazz and improvised music, live and in the studio.

His main interest shifted towards contemporary improvised and composed music.

The relationship with his instruments is focused in sonic and textural elements.

Electronic music was an early influence on his approach to violin playing, which challenges traditional romantic concepts of the violin/viola through use of preparations and micro tuning.

Active in different settings on the Portuguese scene for free improvised music, both as a collaborator and in leading his own groups.

Music for Dance, Cinema, Video and Performance.

Has created the record label Creative Sources Recordings in 1999, which mainly concentrates on releasing experimental and electro-acoustic music."

"Born in Lisbon. Some academic training did not foster in her an interest for musical creation. In 1980, during a trip to the north of India, she intuited the sacred fire of true music, that she will find again in the more initiatic jazz and the gratifying discovery of several trombonists. Sei Miguel´s "sideman" since 1983, she partakes in all his works."

Seu Barradas is a Lisbon-based percussionist active in the experimental, free improvisation, and electroacoustic music scenes. Working primarily with small percussion and extended sound sources, his practice emphasizes texture, timbre, and close-listening interaction within improvised settings. Barradas frequently collaborates with musicians such as violist and crackle-box player Ernesto Rodrigues, trombonist Fala Mariam, and pianist-percussionist André Hencleeday, contributing to a fluid and detail-oriented approach to collective improvisation. His work appears on releases from Creative Sources Recordings, including the live recording February Find (2025), and he regularly performs in galleries and music venues throughout Lisbon.
