Descriptions, Reviews, &c.

Colombian-born, Montreal-based double bassist Pablo Jiménez presents a striking solo album recorded at the Conservatory of Music in Montreal in January 2024. Known for his deep engagement with improvisation and extended techniques, Jiménez approaches the double bass as a vehicle for movement, resonance, and imagination, forging a personal language that traverses folkloric, improvisational, and avant-garde traditions. A frequent collaborator with leading figures of Quebec's experimental and contemporary music scenes-including Ensemble SuperMusique, Malcolm Goldstein, Lori Freedman, and Scott Thomson-he has performed internationally at festivals such as Victoriaville, Suoni per il Popolo, and Darmstädter Ferienkurse. On Objeto, Jiménez strips down his practice to the raw essence of solo performance, exploring the bass with sensitivity and intensity, revealing the instrument as both a percussive and melodic force in the creation of a heterogeneous, contemporary sound world.
