Both of the releaseŐs two long improvisations are abstract in the manner of the best abstract paintings, where form is a function of the relationships among colors. Through a series of plucked notes, key clicks, microtones, multiphonics and more, Rodrigues and Gauguet draw a rich range of timbres from their instruments, while GuerreiroŐs electronics provide the canvas on which these colors are ranged. Together, the three juxtapose and overlap planes of sound, pushing and pulling at each other and allowing each piece to develop through shifts of density and dynamics.With this recording, one can almost visualize the plasticity of sounds as they respond to each other across the surfaces of audio space. • Show Bio for Ernesto Rodrigues "He has been playing the violin for 30 years and in that time has played all genres of music ranging from contemporary music to free jazz and improvised music, live and in the studio. His main interest shifted towards contemporary improvised and composed music. The relationship with his instruments is focused in sonic and textural elements. Electronic music was an early influence on his approach to violin playing, which challenges traditional romantic concepts of the violin/viola through use of preparations and micro tuning. Active in different settings on the Portuguese scene for free improvised music, both as a collaborator and in leading his own groups. Music for Dance, Cinema, Video and Performance. Has created the record label Creative Sources Recordings in 1999, which mainly concentrates on releasing experimental and electro-acoustic music." ^ Hide Bio for Ernesto Rodrigues • Show Bio for Bertrand Gauguet "Bertrand Gauguet is a musician trudging through a practice without hierarchy involving sound and music: as an improvising saxophonist, electronic music composer and as a sounds collector. He plays since the early 2000s the alto saxophone in contexts of solo and group improvisation. His approach takes part in research on the technical areas of the instrument by which precise exploration of a sound language consists of materials produced by the breath, multiphonics and microphony. Collaborations with John Tilbury, Robin Hayward, Franz Hautzinger, Xavier Charles, Sophie Agnel, Pascal Battus, Eric La Casa, Michel Doneda, Insub Meta Orchestra, Seijiro Murayama Tetuzi Akiyama, Toshimaru Nakamura, John Butcher, Axel Dörner, Isabelle Duthoit... Many festivals about new and experimental music (Europe, USA, Japan ...). As an electronic music composer, he composes original music and original soundtracks with dance, movies and radio broadcast. He produced the LP The Torn Map in 2013. In 2011, he was a resident of the villa Kujoyama in Kyoto. He studied the shakuhachi while learning to Honkyoku directory with Mr Yoshio Kurahashi. Since 2004, he taught at the Haute Ecole des Arts du Rhin in the Sonic research program he co-founded in 2007. He leads the generative improvisation workshop at CFMI in Sélestat since 2012 and conducted educational workshops at the Cité de la Musique in Paris from 2002 to 2012." ^ Hide Bio for Bertrand Gauguet • Show Bio for Ricardo Guerreiro "Ricardo Guerreiro (Lisbon, 1975) is a composer who predominantly develops his activity in the field of computer music creation, mainly departing from his interest in the algorithmic description of sonic phenomenon and musical structuring. Over the last years he has been collaborating with different musicians in the composition of collaborative performance situations in diversified contexts. In the field of musicological research, he is interested in the fundamentally ontological character of Aesthetics, seen as a discipline that implies an evaluation of our approach to technique, i.e., how we relate to the means we have at our disposal, as well as the broad acting context, namely the cultural, social and physical spaces. He holds a PhD in Music Informatics / Computer Music from the School of Arts of the Catholic University of Porto. Graduated in Composition by the Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa (2000) and in Electronic Music (2004) by the Conservatorio di Musica Benedetto Marcello di Venezia, Italy. In 2007, he obtained his degree in Musicology at Universidade Nova de Lisboa. He attended several composition courses and seminars in Lisbon, Porto, Aveiro, Paris (IRCAM - '99), Darmstadt ('98 and 2000) and Venice, with names like Annette Vande Gorne, Chaya Czernowin, Curtis Roads, Emmanuel Nunes, François Bayle, Hans Zender, Helmut Lachenmann, Isabel Mundry, Julio Estrada, Mark André, Morton Subotnick and Salvatore Sciarrino, among others, as well as Giorgio Agamben's Aesthetics (2001) and Iconology (2004) semester seminars held at the Universities of Verona and Venice, respectively. As a scholarship holder of the Italian Government he developed, between 2001 and 2002, a research project on the computer music in "Prometeo" by Luigi Nono, supervised by Prof. Alvise Vidolin and having as invited institutions the Center for Computational Sonology (CSC) of the University of Padua and the Luigi Nono Archive in Venice. Between 2004 and 2014 he created and directed the Laboratory of Sound and Composition for the course of Cinema / Motion Picture of Ar.Co (Center for Art and Visual Communication). He was professor (2010-2013) in the courses of Interactive Multimedia Production and Sound Design at the IPA (Instituto Politécnico de Estudos Autónomos). Since 2007, he has been collaborating as a trainer in both ETIC (Escola Técnica de Comunicação e Arte) and EPI (Escola Profissional de Imagem).
