"Dauw, the great tape label based in Ghent, invited me in 2015 to do a release for them. This resulted in two 18 minute tracks, 'Dwaal' and 'Wold'. Both are exercises in creating an auditory space or sphere rather than sculpting a structured composition.
With its orchestral washes amidst a barrage of radio static and erratic noise, 'Dwaal' is the noisy brother of the two. It's a balancing act or battle perhaps between disruptive tumult and serene calm.
On 'Wold', with its sparse piano notes spread out over a bed of subtle hiss, the serenity is left largely unadorned. Wind recordings and bird song - the piano as well as the field recordings captured during a holiday in Vriescheloo, (NL) - slowly guide the listener into an hypnotic, dream-like state. The cassette for Dauw (accompanied by Femke Strijbos' beautiful artwork) was released in February 2016 and sold out quickly.
Moving Furniture Records has decided to re-release it as a CD and download, adding two interpretations to the album, by Benoit Pioulard (whose 'Sonnet' was a clear influence gor the album) and Nicola Ratti (another source of inspiration, both solo and with Bellows). The latter strips 'Dwaal' down and injects it with wonderful synth sputters, rhythms and bloops. Pioulard's version of 'Wold' features his recreation of the atmosphere of the original using organ and guitar with mesmerizing results."-Rutger Zuydervelt (Machinefabriek)

• Show Bio for Rutger Zuydervelt "Machinefabriek is the alias of Rutger Zuydervelt. Rutger's music combines elements of ambient, noise, minimalism, drone, field recordings and electro-acoustic experiments. His pieces can be heard as an attempt to create sonic environments for the listener to dwell in. Finding tension in texture, tone and timing, the result can be very minimalistic at first glance, but reveals itself upon closer listening. The devil is in the details. Rutger was born in 1978 in Apeldoorn (The Netherlands) and now resides in Rotterdam. He started recording as Machinefabriek in 2004. After a series of self released cd-rs, his official debut Marijn was issued in 2006, with great critical acclaim. Since than, a solid stream of music was released on labels such as Type, Important, Home Normal, 12K, Entr'acte, Dekorder, Miasmah, Consouling Sounds, Experimedia and Staalplaat. He performed all over the globe, from Canada to Israel and from Russia to Japan. Rutger collaborated (on record and/or live) with numerous artists, such as Steinbrüchel, Jaap Blonk, Aaron Martin, Peter Broderick, Frans de Waard, Mats Gustafsson, Steve Roden, Gareth Davis, Stephen Vitiello, Michel Banabila, Dirk Serries and Dead Neanderthals, amongst many others. He frequently works with film makers, like Makino Takashi, Mike Hoolboom, John Price, Paul Clipson and Chris Teerink, for whom he composed a soundtrack for his documentary about Sol LeWitt. Rutger also recorded the music for the Canadian drama The Cold and the Quiet from 2014. Furthermore, his music was used in Edward Burtynsky's Watermark, the drama Stone (with Robert DeNiro and Edward Norton) and Josh Fox' influential Gasland and Gasland Part II documentaries. Besides films, Rutger also composes music for dance pieces, like Alix Eynaudi and Kris Verdonck's EXIT (premiéred at the Haus der Kulturen der Welt, Berlin), Alexander Whitley's The Measures Taken (for the Royal Opera in London) and Beheld (for Candoco Dance Company), and multiple pieces by Spanish/Dutch choreographer Iván Pérez. Then there's Rutgers installation work, in which the dialogue with the environment plays an important role. Musician and sound designer active since years in the experimental fields. He is currently working with Giuseppe Ielasi with whom he formed the project entitled Bellows. Since May 2015 he is one of the curators at Standards, an experimental sound research gallery located in Milano, in 2016 he founded Frequente, an art organization based in Milano devoted to sound art and experimental performances. He is a founder member of NeitherSound, a Milan based company active in design and sound productions for exhibitions, performing arts and movies. He has collaborated frequently with Dustin J. O'Halloran. Meluch began documenting field recordings and his own lo-fi compositions on dictaphones, discarded stereos and four-track machines in the mid 1990s, later focusing on highly limited CD-R and cassette releases of his experimental, folk-influenced songs for friends and family. His first recordings as Beno”t Pioulard appeared on the Random Number...Colors Start compilation released by the Ann Arbor-based Moodgadget label in 2004. After 2005's Enge EP Meluch was signed to Chicago's Kranky imprint, for whom he recorded the albums PrŽcis (2006),Temper (2008), Lasted (2010), and Hymnal (2013). In 2010, Meluch formed Orcas with minimalist composer Rafael Anton Irisarri. The duo's self-titled debut was released in April 2012 on Germany's Morr Music imprint, and its follow-up Yearling was released in early 2014.
