Recorded in Toyen Kirke, in Oslo, Norway, on May 27th, 2018, by Ingar Hunskaar.
"Sacrum Profanum is the follow-up to Akmee's first album Neptun (2018), and releaseas as CD, LP and digital download. All members of the band contributed with compositions for this recording session which was done in Toyen Kirke, a church in Oslo that is also known for providing a meeting place for people in difficult situations, be it in the need of a religious/spiritual connection or simply food to fill their stomachs. The quartet was drawn there by the rumors of a good sounding grand piano in a wooden church room, and the curiosity to play in a different acoustic situation. The result is both in and out of this world.
Although Akmee's sound world can appear floating and abstract, the music often involves melodic and rhythmic counterpoint as a starting point to be stretched out in improvisation. Other times it can be repetative and trance-like, these characteristics resulting in a sound that is at the same time technical, emotional and spiritual, depending on the listeners involvement and personality, and the performers' individual and collective creativity in the given moment. The members have a strong connection between each other and are discovering a lot musically, but the band has no commercial potential or value. Freedom! You are welcome to listen, come to a concert or fuck off - as you please! The quartet wishes you the best anyways!"-Nakama Records
