Descriptions, Reviews, &c.

Cordame is the string trio of Marie Neige Lavigne, violin, Julie-Odile Gauthier-Morin, violoncello and Jean Felix, double bass, with AM collective member Pierre Tanguay on percussion. This, their first CD, is a musical voyage through the compositions of Jean Felix Mailloux. Mailloux is a bass player and award-winning composer who has worked with Jean Derome, Marc Bouchard, Marc Denis, Michel Donato, and other. His own CD on the Ambiances Magnetiques family of labels was released in 2006, the Trio Jean Felix Mailloux "Aurores boréales" (MAM 002). The music on this release comes from a diverse set of inspirations, from world folk to film music, through improvisation, filled with sonic images that combine lyricism, relentless rhythms and flying atmospheres, the whole permeated with an unusual sensuality and sensitivity.
