Descriptions, Reviews, &c.
"Müller and Akiyama first played together in the What Is Music? Festival in Melbourne, Australia in 2002. They later performed in Auckland, Tokyo and NYC, before recording Points and Slashes in April 2004 in Tokyo. Points and Slashes comprises six distinct pieces, warm and comfortable, yet still challenging the listener at every turn. Friederike Paetzold's strikingly minimal design is inspired by the work of the Italian 'Spatialist' artist Lucio Fontana."-Erstwhile

Tsunoda, Toshiya
Landscape And Voice [VINYL]
(Black Truffle)
A truly unique set of compositions juxtaposing lush field recording with disruptive vocal repetitions, vowel sounds from six different speakers, creating disorienting moments that lull the listener into complacency and then startles them with unexpected interference, as the composer explores how he can establish a subjective relationship with natural environments.
Jun, Yan / Zhu Wenbo
Twice
(erstwhile)
Beijing sound artists Yan Jun and Zhu Wenbo developed this hour-long sound composition from independent recordings, a set of abstractions through recordings in the field, mechanical and electronic devices, human voice and utterance, acoustic and electronic instruments, &c. &c., made cohesive and compelling through independent time assignments by each artist; inexplicably interesting.
Joonyong, Choi / Jin Sangtae
Hole in My Head
(erstwhile)
Recording in two locations in Seoul by Taku Unami, electronic, sound and noise artists Choi Joonyong and Jin Sangtae present a series of unusual interactions using sonic events, concrete and acousmatic interjections and aberrant expression, patiently conveying each event with clarity and intention and an almost theatrical sense of drama and narrative.
Akiyama, Tetuzi / Herve Boghossian
Suketchi
(Tour de Bras)
Translating to "sketch", the duo of Japanese improvising guitarist Tetuzi Akiyama and French guitarist Hervé Boghossian recorded these sketches in the studio in Marseille, France, seven succinct free improvisations of an open and intuitively lyrical nature performed on acoustic guitars, in a gorgeous album of uniquely spacious interlaced string improvisation.
Rosenberg, Reed Evan / Ethan Tripp
Medium Rude
(ErstAEU)
A journey in sound--drone, abrasive noise and subtle ambiance--in a well-paced example of non-idiomatic soundscape from the first meeting of Reed Evan Rosenberg on microphones, pedals, max, and voice, and Ethan Tripp on speakers, microphones, motors, junk.
Akiyama, Tetuzi / Anla Courtis
Naranja Songs
(Public Eyesore)
Two acoustic guitars collaborate in a beautiful and spare dialog, using extended techniques including bowing and percussive approaches that never detract from the sublime elements of their playing.
