"The music on this recording is entirely improvised. Each and every note played was created in the moment, without preparation, rehearsal, or direction. There was no discussion about what we would do, only the understanding that we would together develop, shape, and collectively compose a beautiful suite of sounds. There is cohesion, and continuity within each composition and this speaks to the nature of the relationship I have with the two brilliant improvisers performing with me.
I have worked with both Darius and Vijay in many different contexts: we have performed each other's music, we have traveled together, we have played in other's ensembles together, we know each other well, and we have high regard for one another. At this point Vijay can very easily discern where I am going by what I am playing. Sometimes he is able to figure out where I going before I even develop an idea: before I know where I am going. Darius understands the multi-directional language I use within my bass playing. He knows that I may reference Peter Kowald in one moment and Bootsy Collins in another, Oscar Pettiford in another and Geezer Bulter in another. When we improvise together were not just in it for the blowing session, we are spontaneously composing together, in the moment. [...]"-Adam Lane, from the liner notes. Also available on vinyl LP.
