"A cellist and singer on a perilous path, Mélanie Auclair began her music apprenticeship at a very young age. At first she learned the violin, but soon found the low range of the cello more attractive, and so she took her first lessons on that instrument at the age of 4. Later she focused on singing. A graduate in classical singing, Mélanie came to the big city with the firm intention to clear up her horizons. Active on the music scene since 1999, she has performed with several artists, including Chloé Ste-Marie, Freeworm, Steve Hill, Haïku, Martin Léon and Michel Rivard. She currently accompanies the singer Lhasa de Sela. She has also composed for theatre and dance productions. In 2002, she threw the bases of her electronic music group Mission 41-g, with whom she performed in several venues and produced her first demo. Following these numerous experiences, Mélanie felt the need to move to a freer kind of music, where she could rely on her spontaneity. And so she began to develop a research project with Papa Sucreah, who was to become a regular collaborator. At that point, she began to record the sessions that would later turn into the album Puce à l’oreille. One of her pieces even got chosen for the 2003 compilation album Sang9, presenting the emerging artists of the new generation of “musique actuelle.” Last year, Mélanie also took part to Danse-Cité; Célébration 2, Les événements de la pleine lune (a dance/music improvisation project directed by Louise Bédard, Jean Derome and Daniel Souillière) at the Théâtre La Chapelle. Again in 2003, she performed during the music event SuperOption2 and took part to the Codes d’accès evening devoted to electroacoustic music. She has also presented a number of improv concerts with bold ensembles at the Va-et-Vient; these performances integrated other media, such as sculpture and video art."-Ambiances Magnetiques
