A wild, fun, inventive and musically impressive ride from French cellist Valentin Ceccaldi quartet with Etienne Ziemniak on drums, Fulco Ottervanger on piano & keyboards and Luis Lopes on guitar, a unique set of jazz, psychedelic and almost circus music, where the listener is never quite certain what's around the corner but constantly amazed at what they hear.

Recorded at Le Petit Faucheux, in Tours, France, On February 1sta nd 2nd, 2023, by Matthieu Metzger.
"Valentin Ceccaldi (cello) created a most unique spectral quartet when he conceived the idea of the music to be played and invited Etienne Ziemniak (drums, voice), Fulco Ottervanger (piano, keyboards) and Luis Lopes (guitar). The four of them make a very unlikely band with very unlikely results and to be honest this is the magic over it. Uncategorized improvised music that runs through jazz and psychedelic sounds, Bonbon Flamme is a delight!
"It's about colors and intensity here.
The cellist Valentin Ceccaldi invites three of the most singular and creative musicians of the European improvised music scene; the explosive drums of Etienne Ziemniak, the incandescent guitar of Luis Lopes and the rainbow keyboards of Fulco Ottervanger. Together they create a music of surprise: solar, powerful and generous.
The composition "Bonbon Flamme", a sort of symphonic poem that names this album and the band, is an agglomeration of notes, words and drawings skillfully built, allowing each one to spread out, like a flower in spring, within a piece of music in which each personality is essential to the other.
This record is a kind of a self-portrait, with four voices, pulverising references then recomposing them with bright colors and a commitment of body and spirit cherished by the four builders.
Bonbon Flamme is a delight.
A fluorescent, raging and burning delight."-Clean Feed

He is an unfollower... experiments himself through paradoxes. Invokes teachings by following standards of subversion to any possibility of pre-established idea. Eminent self-subversion... Introspective timeless trance. Running Multi-international groups, especially his Humanization 4tet (with Portuguese Rodrigo Amado and Texan's Aaron and Stefan Gonzalez), Lisbon Berlin Trio (with Germans Christian Lillinger, Robert Landfermann), and his "Noise" or "Love Song(s)" Solos, plus his highly recommended records he is growing as an international artist, playing at important Festivals and venues not just in Portugal but in Europe and U.S. Coming from a rock/punk and blues background, while studying at local classic and rock schools, he began studying Jazz at Hot Club Portugal School and then was finalist at Escola de Jazz do Barreiro/Lisbon. Then did studies with Saxophonist Joe Giardullo who opened for him the doors of modern jazz harmony complexity through the George Russell's "Lydian Chromatic Concept of Tonal Organization", plunging Lopes into the world of improvised and experimental music, without disregard for his fascination with distorion and guitar feedbacks, expressed in different incursions into noise music, while also canalizes energys towards projects where he can develop his composing abilities. In more recent times, Lopes has played and / or recorded with different artists connected to jazz and improvised music, such as Noel Akchoté, Christian Lillinger, Robert Landfermann, Marco Von Orelly, Marc Unternahrer, Adam Lane, Igal Foni, Floros Floridis, Joe Giardulo, Harvey Sorgen, Benjamin Duboc, Phill Niblock, Ernesto Rodrigues, Paulo Curado, Sei Miguel, Rodrigo Amado, Hernâni Faustino, Gabriel Ferrandini, Rodrigo Pinheiro, Miguel Mira, Aaron Gonzalez, Stefan Gonzalez, Dennis Gonzalez, Elliot Levin, Alfred Hart, Daniel Levin, Reuben Radding, Daniel Carter, Jeb Bishop, Josh Abrams, Jean-Luc Guionnet, Samuel Blaser, Boris Hauf, Evan Parker, Olivier Benoit, Fred Lomberg-holm, Valentin Ceccaldi, Gonçalo Almeida, among many others." ^ Hide Bio for Luis Lopes • Show Bio for Valentin Ceccaldi Valentin Ceccaldi, born on February 3, 1989, is a French cellist, bass player, composer and improviser.
