Constellation Ensemble: Dove Morde La Teranta (FMR)

Referencing the traditional dance of Salento named for the tarantula, this Italian 9-piece improvising ensemble spent several days developing the unique orchestration, melodies and themes of these eight pieces, recorded after the OSIMU festival held in Taviano, using an acousmatic recording device to optimize the details of their insightful and often biting conversations.

"Where the Taranta bites

This album was recorded on September 26, after the OSIMU festival held in Taviano (Lecce), the land of Taranta. Just as in the musical exorcism of "tarantism", musicians improvised for several days before identifying effective sounds, melodies and musical themes treating the "tarantolati". So the artists participating in the OSIMU festival have figured out different hypotheses and new forms to try define the changing complexity that surrounds us.

The CD contains only a small part of the social and artistic experiences experimented during OSIMU, but settles some fundamental perspectives of the collective research of the musicians involved. "Dove morede la taranta" does not allude to a cultural and musical past that no longer exists but imagines new paths in which traditional instruments such as the accordion and the shawm are tiles of a mosaic able to recount our time. The tracks, all improvised, were recorded with an acousmatic device designed to optimize the mixing of sounds and details."-from the liner notes

"Donatello Pisanello shows a curious personality: arranger of traditional Salento music and soundtracks' composer. Guitarist, or maybe I should say multi-instrumentalist, since he also plays organ, mandola, mandoloncello. A degree in philosophy in 1989 and the activity in the traditional Salento's music, when in 1995 he founded the group of traditional Salento music viva Officina ZOE'.

As a guitarist Pisanello has made these two works Il Crollo della Mente Bicamerale e l'Origine della Coscienza in 2006 and 8 Horror Vacui per una entomologia quotidiana, in 2009, both self-produced and characterized by an experimental approach and research towards the instrument."
