"The French saxophonist Daunik Lazro combines a tart, piercing tone with a quick mind and a flexible philosophy of music-making. His professional start was in bassist Saheb Sarbib's orchestra, a relationship he maintained through most of the '70s, which included three recordings. His first steps playing his own music involved a radical resizing of the cast on-stage, going from orchestra playing to solo saxophone concerts and duets. In the '80s, he busily played with many on the European improvised music scene, including bassist Jean Jacques Avenel, cellist Tristan Honsinger, violinist Carlos Zingaro, drummer Christian Rollet, and saxophonist Evan Parker, among others. In the mid-'80s, Lazro expanded his partnerships to include dance and theater projects, including work with the Company of the Chance.

He formed a particularly fine trio in 1987 with fellow saxophonist Michel Doneda and the brilliant ppercussionistLê Quan Ninh, playing at many of the major European festivals and also touring in Canada. Duets with the American free improviser Joe McPhee are a 1991 discographical highlight, during a period when Lazro also began playing viola. In 1993, he started his own orchestra as well as a quartet called Outlaws in Jazz with Jac Berrocal, Didier Levallet, and Dennis Charles. In 1995, he toured Europe in a triple-threat combination with both McPhee and Parker, and the former artist also joined him in a quartet the following year with the superb British contrabassist Paul Rogers. In the late '90s, he continued involvement with a series of orchestra projects, often as a guest soloist."

"Carlos Zíngaro (or Carlos "Zíngaro" Alves, born 1948 in Lisbon, Portugal) is a Portuguese violinist and electronic musician active in free improvisation.

He studied classical music in Lisbon and began working with a number of leading improvisers in the mid-1970s, becoming one of the European top improvisers presently. He has worked with such musicians as Richard Teitelbaum, Joëlle Léandre, Peter Kowald, Barre Phillips, Daunik Lazro, Derek Bailey, Jon Rose, Ken Vandermark, Ken Filiano, Rodrigo Amado, Ned Rothenberg, Rüdiger Carl, Dominique Regef, Evan Parker, Annick Nozati, Theo Jörgensmann and Paul Lovens.

Zíngaro has performed at new and improvised music festivals in Europe, Asia, and North America, produced several film scores, and collaborated with dance companies.

He is also a prolific illustrator and comics author."

"b. 1 May 1940, Kavala, Greece. Pianist, broadcaster, promoter, novelist and journalist Papadimitriou has been one of the moving forces behind the still-small Greek jazz scene. His radio programmes and articles in the magazine TZAZ helped to build an informed audience for jazz at its most experimental. Papadimitriou's duo with Floros Floridis (saxophone, clarinet) was Greece's first free music group. Unfortunately, 'musical and personal differences' made it a short-lived one. Although Papadimitriou periodically works with other Greek musicians, his discography is composed almost entirely of solo piano recordings. Particularly striking is his use - alternately subtle and dramatic - of the piano's interior: plucking, strumming and striking the strings of the instrument."

"In 1965, Bolcato met the film archivist Henri Langlois, with whom he set up a branch of the Cinémathèque française in Bourg-en-Bresse. In 1968 he founded the band Free Jazz Workshop in Lyon with Maurice Merle, Pierre Guyon and Jean Méreu (album Inter Fréquences, 1973). As part of the Association à la Recherche d'un Folklore Imaginaire (ARFI), which he co-founded, he worked in the Workshop de Lyon (with Maurice Merle, Louis Sclavis and Christian Rollet) and in the large formation La Marmite Infernale (among others with Alain Gibert, Jean-Paul Autin, Xavier Garcia, Jean-Luc Cappozzo, Christian Ville, Rollet), with whom five albums were created up to 2005, also in a duo with Sclavis and Patrick Vollat. He was also a member of the Module quartet around André Jaume. Since 1993 he has also played with Rollet and Daunik Lazro in the Trio And His Orchestra. In the 1990s he also recorded with Lazro, Carlos Zíngaro and Sakis Papadimitriou (album Periferia 1995) as well as with Norbert Stein (News of Roi Ubu), in 2000 with Tchangodei (Conséquence Vitale); In 2004 he released the CD Eau forte with Quatre à Quatre. In the field of jazz, he was involved in 43 recording sessions between 1973 and 2010. In 2019 he recorded Les Plutériens: Opéra-Space with Charles Pennequin, La Marmite Infernale and the Choeur Spirito. Bolcato also appeared as a soloist at several festivals, but also played with Joëlle Léandre and Michel Edelin."
