Three duos--"Tandem Spaces"--and two solos--"Dry Swing"(s)-between drummer Gunter Baby Sommer, who was celebrating his 70th birthday the year of this recording, and younger generation pianist and Euphorium label-leader Oliver Schwerdt, the duos an exciting set of exchanges often building to high speed, with Schwerdt's solo work engrossingly intricate and quick-witted.

"Gunter 'Baby' Sommer is not celebrating his 70th birthday alone. In addition to his fourth solo CD Dedications, he presents the duo CD Dry Swing / Tandem Spaces together with the piano player Oliver Schwerdt. With one of the most idiosyncratic keyboard virtuosos of the younger generation, he updates the experience he has gathered over four decades at the side of Ulrich Gumpert, Cecil Taylor and Irene Schweizer.
Schwerdt, who recently received his doctorate in musicology over Sommer, knows Gunter Sommer's oevre, instruments and playing styles like no other. In their tandems they can now find exciting artistic harmony at eye level. Some people still remember the excursions the Saxon drum master took with Ekkehard Jost, the great pioneer of jazz research in Germany, in the 1980s. The year 2013 now also bears witness to a particularly intense moment of well-sorted intellect and communicated spontaneity."-Euphorium
