"In Memorian of Olivier Messiaen, Liturgy of the birds brings Messiaen compositional processes into the contemporary sound of a piano trio along with a very sophisticated percussion ensemble. To say that the music here is continuously surprising until the very last recorded note is not enough, we need to add that this is European music with a strong portuguese accent and this can be hard to explain. I follow Daniel Bernardes music for a while and nothing prepared me for the magnitude of this music."-Clean Feed
"Although Messiaen never worked or showed any interest in the world of jazz, he was famous for his improvisations. This aspect is important for our detecting a certain proximity to the paradigms of traditional jazz.
This closeness to nature means that Messiaen's language becomes a possible path for contemporary jazz. It was this proximity that led Daniel Bernardes to join together a jazz piano trio and a percussion ensemble, in this case Drumming. In this project, Bernardes launches himself into the challenge of writing music in accordance with Messiaen's techniques and aesthetics and then mixing this with his contemporary jazz. It is an entirely new experiment, in which he pays tribute to the French master."-Cidade Aberta
