descriptions, reviews, &c.
Anthropocene denotes the current geological age, viewed as the period during which human activity has been the dominant influence on climate and the environment. To create this Sonfication project, Dan Banks used two sources of data, one from NASA and the other from "Our World in Data", transforming that data through a synthesizer to create musically-driven sonifications: 15 minute sections of sound used as a basis for each movement in the trio's improvisations. Those movements focus on aspects of climate change and man's influence on the planet, in a global perspective on the influence and change we've brought on the planet, alongside the effects of natural disasters.
The first part of this set is a DVD, the second is a studio album. The trio of pianist Dan Banks, bassist Jose Canha and drummer/percussionist Trevor Taylor use the underlying sonifications to create beautiful and moving lyrical interplay, sensitive and skillful playing that builds and releases in gorgeous way. Packaged in a slide-out box with a tray holding both discs and the booklet, and priced as a single CD.
