The Spanish free improvising quartet Colectivo maDam of Ruben Gutierrez on electronics, objects, Tomas Gris on acoustic guitar, Guillermo Torres on fluguelhorn, and David Area on electronics are joined by Lisbon improvisers Ernesto Rodrigues on viola and Miguel Mira on cello for this 3-part work, the first recorded live at Espacio B, Madrid, the 2nd & 3rd recorded in the studio. All three pieces are collective electroacoustic improvisation in a lowercase style, slowly evolving works of tremendous detail and concentration.
The unison of Creative Sources regulars Rordrigues and Mira with Colectivo maDam, all of whom have appeared on Creative Sources albums alongside albums on Evan Parker's psi label, Idealstate Recordings, NotTwo, NoBusiness, Tour de Bras, PAX, and Jacc, is perfectly sensible and compatible, all of them explorers and leaders in the development of large scale non-idiomatic ea-improv. Through extended techniques and the unusual textures and tones of electronics its often difficult to determine whether sources are electronic or acoustic, so compatible are the approaches of players on both side of the electric cord. It rewards the listener to pay close attention to the interactions and development of these improvisations, with each subsequent listen revealing details and subtle nuances that come from their complex layering and inter-player support.
