"Fire! Orchestra follow their acclaimed 2014 album Enter with Ritual, slimming the ensemble down from 28 of northern Europe's finest jazz and improvisational musicians to a mere 21. Since the release of Enter, this energetic and dynamic mass ensemble has gone from intimate jazz settings to the main hall at the Molde International Jazz Festival and a major stage at the prestigious Roskilde Festival.
As brilliant as Enter is, with Ritual they have outdone themselves and produced a beast of beauty and power, extremely well executed, beautifully recorded, and produced from only two days in the studio. Free improvisations, spontaneous horns, keyboard frenzy, abstract electronics, and guitar mayhem, not to mention those glorious twin voices from heaven and hell. It's about mysteries and rituals in music and in life."-Rune Grammofon

She works in the field of improvised music, drawing from a wide range of influences, spanning free jazz to textural soundwork. Rasmussen works on exploring the natural rawness of her instrument - experimenting on what the saxophone is capable of in sound and expression, with and without preparations. Much in demand, she has performed with the likes of Alan Silva, Chris Corsano, Ståle Liavik Solberg, and with her Trio Riot group with Sam Andreae and David Meier." ^ Hide Bio for Mette Rasmussen • Show Bio for Anna Hogberg Anna Högberg is a saxophonist, a member of Dog Life, Fire! Orchestra ^ Hide Bio for Anna Hogberg • Show Bio for Johan Berthling "Johan Berthling (* 1973 in Stockholm ) is a Swedish jazz and improvisational musician ( contrabass , electric bass , also piano ). Berthling studied at the Royal Music College in Stockholm from 1996-1998 . Since then, he has worked in the Swedish and international jazz and improvisation scene in various ensembles including David Stackenäs , Raymond Strid , Fredrik Ljungkvist , Sten Sandell , Paal Nilssen-Love , Akira Sakata , Mats Gustafsson , Jonas Kullhammar and the Christer Bothén Acoustic Ensemble. In the field of jazz, he was involved in 23 recording sessions between 1996 and 2014. He also worked with folkmusicist and songwriter Nicolai Dunger ( roasting och herren , 2007)." ^ Hide Bio for Johan Berthling • Show Bio for Per Texas Johansson "Per "Texas" Johansson Bold as brass! How else can one describe Per 'Texas' Johansson's music? With a wide-open mind he mixes whatever, whenever. He lets styles and moods come and go, while his attack remains as bold as brass. In "Farornas hav" he and his comrade-in-arms Fredrik Ljungkvist rush to the fore - of what could be pure blues-rock, if it weren't that the instruments and playing style don't really fit. In the title piece for his second CD, Alla mina kompisar (All my pals) he invokes the excursions on paper-brittle night ice characteristic of free, piano-less jazz. Then he turns to Jan Johansson's sleepily bluesy Blues i oktaver (Blues in octaves) and emphasizes the carefully considered, audacious intervals with an indolently growling energy. Per 'Texas' Johansson switches from tenor sax to clarinet and on to bass clarinet as easily as he changes style and mood. He places himself centre stage with a natural authority which nevertheless lets his fellow musicians - saxophonist Fredrik Ljungkvist, bassist Dan Berglund and drummer Mikel Ulfberg - compete on the same terms. This technique makes Per 'Texas' Johansson's music generous and outgoing. And bold as brass!"-Johan Scherwin, Translation: Sven H.E. Borei ^ Hide Bio for Per Texas Johansson • Show Bio for Andreas Werliin "Andreas Werliin (* 1982 ) is a Swedish drummer of creative jazz and new improvisational music . Orchestra, and Strändernas Svall." ^ Hide Bio for Finn Loxbo • Show Bio for Julien Desprez "Julien Desprez is a musician and performer based in Paris. Jazz and rock were his early musical loves, but they evolved rapidly to free forms where body and space find their places through sound. As his practice progressed as well as his conception and approach to his instrument, the music and space changed. He is now considering the guitar more like a battery, an organ, a modifiable instrument deployable at will. Through a mix of actions on the instrument and a play of foot on effect pedals, taking inspiration from the technique of Tap Dance, it completely opened the possibilities, sound and physical environment of the instrument. This results in a practice where body is engaged to its fullest. Now evolving between sound art, performance and contemporary improvisational music, his work today is centred around all the questions that exist within a stage space, through body, space, sight and light, but where the sound remains the central pillar. Julien is also a co-founder of the Collectif Coax, a music cooperative based in Paris and created in 2008, which was recently labelled "Compagnie Nationale" by the French Ministry of Culture and Communication. He's also played with Charlie Haden, Mats Gustafson, Jeanne Added, Edward Perraud, Thomas Depourquery, François Jeanneau, Louis Sclavis, Stephane Payen, Guillaume Orti, Benoit Delbecq, Tortoise, Han Bennink, Hubert Dupont, Rob Mazurek, Jef Parker, Frank Vaillant, Gilles Coronado, Beniat Achary, Noël Ackchoté, David Grubbs, Doug Wamble, Marc Ducret, Sylvain Darrifourcq, Eve Risser, Mederic Collignon, Magic Malik, Emmanuel Bex et Hasse Poulsen." ^ Hide Bio for Julien Desprez • Show Bio for Jonas Kullhammar "Jonas Kullhammar (September 2, 1978 in Nacka, Sweden) is a Swedish jazz composer, saxophonist and is one of Sweden's most established jazz musicians. Best, just simply because he is the musician most far away from defining something with being best, or worse for that part. Pure honesty, in its best way. Or worse way. As honest is neither good or bad. Niklas is. And is becoming. Niklas is human. This is heard in his playing; the haunting crescendo of thoughts, spanning over 50.000 years, blown out through the mouthpiece of his trumpet. Why? What? Who? How? Now? He is his own foghorn (Mistlur). Clearing out the dim and artificial with ignited instinct. He is the leader of the herd of musicians, Je Suis!. And active in groups like Kege Snö, Snus, Se&Hör... Niklas Barnö and Joel Grip has known each other since they learned how to crawl musically and have been crucial for the development of their music as heard playing together as well as in the music organized together; Umlaut Records Sweden and unique festival Hagenfesten in Dala-Floda." ^ Hide Bio for Niklas Barno • Show Bio for Susana Santos Silva "Susana Santos Silva is a trumpeter, improviser and composer from Porto, Portugal.
